India scraps fees on tourist and medical visas for Fijian citizens

The fee waiver covers tourist visas, medical visas, and medical attendant visas processed at India's diplomatic mission in Suva

Fijian nationals can now get tourist and medical visas for India without paying any fees, after the Indian High Commission in Suva announced it would begin issuing them at zero cost from June 29, 2026. The waiver also extends to medical attendant visas, according to the Fiji Times.

The decision removes costs that had previously made Indian visas a significant expense for Fijian travelers, particularly those seeking medical treatment abroad.

What Fijians were paying before

Until this change, the fees for physical visas processed at India's diplomatic mission in Suva were substantial. A tourist visa valid for up to one year cost FJ$230 (US$101), while a one-to-five-year tourist visa was FJ$452 (US$199).

On the medical side, a visa for stays of up to six months was priced at FJ$185 (~$81), and a medical visa valid between six months and one year cost FJ$274 (~$121). All of those charges have now been eliminated for Fijian applicants.

What stays the same

The High Commission made clear that only tourist, medical, and medical attendant visa fees have been waived. Every other visa type that Fijians can apply for through the High Commission still carries its existing fee.

The move should lower the barrier for Fijians looking to visit India for holidays or healthcare, removing what had been a meaningful upfront cost before even booking flights or accommodation.
