Bermudian visa policy for American citizens

US citizens do not currently need a visa to visit Bermuda for short stays of up to 180 days for tourism or business. While visa-exempt, visitors are strictly prohibited from engaging in any form of local employment without a pre-approved work permit.

US travelers need one Bermudian entry document:

  • Bermuda Arrival Card: A mandatory digital form that must be completed prior to arrival (or upon landing). It generates a digital record that travelers must present to immigration officials to facilitate entry. It replaced the previous Travel Authorization system and is required for all visitors arriving by air or yacht.

General Bermuda entry requirements for US travelers are:

  • US passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date (US Passport Cards are only accepted for sea travel; they are not valid for air travel to Bermuda)
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Evidence of sufficient financial funds for the duration of the stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or residential address)
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation (e.g., business invitation letter)

Frequently asked questions about getting the Bermuda visa with a United States passport

No. US citizens can visit Bermuda visa-free for tourism or business for up to 180 days (6 months). You don't need to apply for a visa at an embassy. Stays beyond six months require a formal application for an extension at the Department of Immigration in Hamilton.

The Bermuda Arrival Card is a mandatory digital form that all visitors must complete before arrival. It generates a digital record that you must present to immigration officials. It replaced the previous paper pink forms and the paid Travel Authorization. You can complete it up to 48 hours before your flight.

Only if you're traveling by sea (cruise or private yacht). For all air travel to Bermuda, a valid US Passport Book is strictly required. Passport Cards are not accepted at airport immigration. Regardless of your mode of travel, your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay.

No. The Work From Bermuda (WFB) certificate program officially ended on February 28, 2025. If you wish to work remotely from Bermuda in 2026, you must apply for permission to reside on an annual basis. This allows you to live on the island while working for an employer outside Bermuda, provided you meet financial and health insurance requirements.

No. Visiting under the 180-day visa-exempt status strictly prohibits local employment. To work for a Bermudian company, your employer must obtain a work permit on your behalf before you arrive on the island. Engaging in local work without a permit is a violation of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act and can result in deportation.
