Chile visa requirements
Chile lets most visitors in without a visa, but it asks every traveller over 18 for something else: the Customs SAG Declaration (Declaración Jurada SAG-Aduana), a sworn customs form covering the plant and animal products, merchandise, and currency you bring in. It applies at every border control in the country, air, land and sea, and it applies to Chileans returning home as well as to visitors.
Start your application and iVisa will confirm exactly which Chile travel document you need based on your nationality and trip, then prepare, review, and file it for you.
General Chile Customs SAG Declaration requirements are:
Requirements verified against official government sources
- A valid travel document
- Your travel details including port of entry
- Your declaration answers: plant and animal products, merchandise and currency
- A valid email address

Chile visa FAQs
What travelers commonly ask about Chile visas.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Do I need a visa for Chile?
Generally, no. Nationals of Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, the United States, the UK and most of the EU visit Chile visa-free for up to 90 days. What every traveller over 18 does need is the Customs SAG Declaration, a sworn customs form filed before or on arrival.
What is the Chile Customs SAG Declaration?
A sworn declaration run jointly by SAG (Chile's agricultural service) and Customs. It covers the plant and animal products, merchandise and currency you bring into the country. It is not a visa and grants no stay. It is a declaration you file, with no approval step.
Who has to file the Chile Customs SAG Declaration?
Every person over 18 entering Chile, whatever their nationality, including Chilean citizens and residents returning home. Under-18s do not file their own declaration: SAG requires the accompanying adult to include them on their own form and take responsibility for their baggage.
Is the Chile Customs SAG Declaration the only document I need for Chile?
It is the one customs requirement everyone shares, but never the only document you need: you still travel on a valid passport or, for Andean Community nationals, a national ID, and you still meet Chile's entry rules. Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, the United States, the UK and most of the EU need no visa to visit Chile, so for them the Customs SAG Declaration is the one additional declaration that applies, visa-exempt or not.
When can I file the Chile Customs SAG Declaration?
Only in the 24 hours before you arrive, the shortest window of any Chile travel document. See the Chile Customs SAG Declaration page for exactly how that window works and how iVisa gets your declaration ready the moment it opens.
Can I still use the paper form of the Chile Customs SAG Declaration?
Yes. Chilean law names both formats, digital or paper, so the digital route is a convenience, not a gate. Nobody can be locked out of the country for lacking the digital version.
