This document is meant for travelers who need authorization to visit Latvia for tourism, business, or short-term visits. Instead of applying for a traditional visa, eligible travelers can apply for this simple electronic travel authorization.
Your Latvia ETA allows a single entry stay of up to 30 days. It must be obtained before traveling and is linked electronically to your passport.
Latvia follows the standard Schengen Area visa policy, which means the entry rules depend on your nationality, the purpose of your visit, and how long you plan to stay. Citizens of the EU and Schengen member states can enter Latvia freely without a visa.
Travelers from visa-exempt countries, such as the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia, can visit Latvia and other Schengen states for up to 90 days within 180 days without a visa. Still, starting in 2025, they must apply for a Latvia ETA (European Travel Authorization) before departure.
Nationals of countries that are not visa-exempt must apply for a Schengen Visa. This visa permits stays of up to 90 days within 180 days for purposes such as tourism, business, or family visits and allows travel across all Schengen states.
Latvia issues National Visas (D visas) and residence permits for longer stays for work, study, or family reunification. These allow stays of more than 90 days and may provide a path to permanent residency.
Latvia also requires a transit visa for travelers from certain countries who pass through Latvian airports or land borders en route to a non-Schengen country.
For the most up-to-date rules and requirements, before applying, travelers should always check with the Latvian Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) or official Schengen visa centers.
Applying for a visa on your own can be confusing and time-consuming. iVisa simplifies the process, reduces errors, and gives you peace of mind
