Most foreign nationals who are not visa-exempt must obtain a visa before traveling to Lithuania for tourism, business, family visits, medical treatment, or short-term study. Citizens of visa-exempt countries, including the United States, can visit Lithuania for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa. Once implemented, visa-exempt travelers will need to obtain an approved ETIAS before departure.

Lithuania applies Schengen short-stay rules. Travelers must ensure they hold the correct visa or travel authorization before departure and meet all entry conditions.

FAQs

The Lithuanian consulate determines whether your visa is issued as single-entry, double-entry, or multiple-entry. This decision is based on your travel itinerary, supporting documents, and previous Schengen travel history. The approved number of entries is printed directly on the visa sticker in your passport.
Yes, but Lithuania must be your main destination, meaning you will spend the longest portion of your trip there. If your stay is equally divided, Lithuania must be your first point of entry. Applying through the incorrect country may affect future visa applications.
A Schengen Visa (Type C) allows short stays for tourism, business, or family visits. A national visa (Type D) is required for long-term stays such as work, study, or residence in Lithuania. National visas follow different requirements and approval procedures.
No. A short-stay Schengen Visa cannot be converted into a work or residence permit from within Lithuania. If you intend to stay long term, you must apply for the appropriate national visa before traveling.
Overstaying your authorized period may result in fines, administrative penalties, and potential entry bans within the Schengen Area. Overstays are recorded and can negatively impact future visa applications. Travelers must leave before their permitted stay expires.
A Lithuania Schengen Visa (Type C) is required for travelers from visa-required countries and involves submitting supporting documents and attending a biometric appointment before travel. ETIAS is a pre-travel authorization for visa-exempt nationals. It is applied for online and does not replace a visa for travelers who are required to obtain one. ETIAS also does not permit work or long-term residence.
