The Malawi visa system is known for being difficult to navigate – your photo must be the right size, and your passport scan must be clear.
Don’t worry – we review your whole application to catch anything that might cause delays. One of our experts checks everything for errors or missing information to make sure it’s ready to go. This review is quick but thorough.
We’re not the government, but we submit your application to them and are here for you along the way if there are any problems.
We’ll email your approved eVisa and let you know how to use it for your trip.
Purpose: The Malawi eVisa allows travelers to visit Malawi for short stays for tourism, business, and transit purposes.
When to apply: It’s recommended to apply at least 2 weeks in advance.
Duration and extensions Depending on the type selected (single- or multiple-entry visas), the visa has a validity period of 3, 6, or 12 months. The actual permitted length of stay (30, 60, or 90 days) is determined by the visa approval and depends on the visa category you apply for.
Entries: The visa is issued as a single- or multiple-entry document.
Ports of entry: The Malawi eVisa is valid at all official ports of entry into Malawi, including international airports (such as Lilongwe and Blantyre) and designated land border crossings
Delivery format: An approved eVisa will be confirmed via an approval letter emailed to you. Travelers must print out this email and present it while traveling and upon arrival in Malawi.
If you’re just passing through Malawi on your way to another country and need to leave the airport or stay overnight, the transit visa is the right option.
It’s valid for up to 7 days and allows one entry into the country. You’ll need to provide a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your destination.

These visas are issued to foreign government officials, diplomats, and other guests traveling on official state business.
They are typically valid for up to three months and must be arranged through the nearest Malawi embassy or diplomatic mission.

If you plan to work or live in Malawi, you’ll need a different type of visa. Employment in Malawi requires a Temporary Employment Permit (TEP), while long-term stays for investors or business owners may require a Business Residence Permit.
These permits must be arranged by your employer or local sponsor and cannot be applied for online. You’ll need to enter Malawi on a visitor visa or eVisa first, then convert your status through the Malawi Immigration Department once you're in the country.
Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer this visa*
Students accepted by a recognized educational institution in Malawi must apply for a student permit. This is not something you can do through iVisa. Your school will help you initiate the application with the immigration office.
The permit covers the duration of your studies and may allow for limited work opportunities depending on your program.
Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer this visa*
Applying for a visa on your own can be confusing and time-consuming. iVisa simplifies the process, reduces errors, and gives you peace of mind
