Who it's for
Citizens of the countries Mongolia lets apply online, currently just under a hundred of them. Nationals of a separate list of countries travel visa-free and do not need this eVisa, and anyone on neither list applies for an embassy visa instead.
Permitted activities
Tourism under the K2 category, or taking part in sport, cultural or arts events, content creation and filmmaking under K4. Travelers passing through Mongolia use the separate K6 transit category, which carries a shorter stay.
Entry points
Air and land border crossings. You choose single entry or multiple entry when you apply, and Mongolia does not charge more for the multiple-entry option.
Delivery format
There is no physical document. Your eVisa is an electronic record tied to your passport number, issued by Mongolia's Immigration Agency and checked electronically at the border.
Good to know
Every minor needs their own passport and their own eVisa, with no coverage under a parent's, and a child traveling with one parent or another adult needs a notarized consent letter and a birth certificate at the border. The eVisa cannot be extended or converted. If an individual or organization is hosting you, you must register with the Immigration Agency shortly after you arrive.

  • Although a person can apply themselves on-line for a Mongolia eVisa, the Mongolian website wouldn't work for me. So although it cost me extra, I used iVisa to apply for me. They were great at spotting a problem with my information, which was quickly sorted, and a day later I had my eVisa.

  • as belgian citizen I was worried you asked for a Schengen-visa that I certainly didn't need to travel to Mongolia. So I was wondering if you were bonafide. After completing the form everrything went faster than expected

Mongolia visa FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about the Mongolia eVisa.

Still have questions?

Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.

What are the different types of Mongolia eVisas?

The Mongolia eVisa system issues three specific categories: K2 for Tourism, K4 for Sports or Cultural Events, and K6 for Transit. You must ensure you select the correct category; for instance, if you're attending a Naadam festival event as a participant, you may need a K4 visa instead of a standard K2 tourist visa.

How long is the Mongolia eVisa valid for entry?

Once issued, a single-entry Mongolia eVisa is typically valid for 150 days. This means you must enter the country within five months of the approval date. Once you cross the border, you are usually permitted a stay of up to 30 days.

Can I enter Mongolia at any border crossing with an eVisa?

No. The eVisa is specifically accepted at major international ports of entry, including Chinggis Khaan International Airport (Ulaanbaatar) and key land borders like Altanbulag (Russia border) and Zamiin-Uud (China border). If you plan to use a remote or minor border crossing, you must obtain a traditional visa from an embassy.

Can I extend my stay beyond the eVisa's 30 days?

Yes. You can apply for a one-time extension of up to 30 additional days. You must visit the Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar in person at least one week before your initial permit expires. You'll need to provide a valid reason, proof of accommodation, and pay an extension fee.

Is there a double-entry option for the eVisa?

No. Currently, the Mongolia eVisa is strictly for a single entry. If your travel plans involve leaving Mongolia (e.g., to visit China or Russia) and returning, you must apply for a second eVisa or obtain a multiple-entry visa from a Mongolian consulate before your trip.

What are the specific photo requirements for the Mongolia eVisa?

The Mongolian government is very strict about the white background and the date of the photo. It must have been taken within the last six months. Selfies or photos with glasses are frequently rejected. Our expert review ensures that your photo meets these precise pixel and background requirements to prevent denial.

Do I need a visa to transit in Mongolia?

If you're staying in the airport’s international transit area for less than 24 hours without clearing immigration, you don't need a visa. However, if you plan to leave the airport or transit through Mongolia by land (such as via the Trans-Mongolian Railway), you must obtain a K6 Transit eVisa, which is valid for a stay of up to 10 days.

Do children/minors need their own Mongolia eVisa?

Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, must have their own individual passport and eVisa. For minors, you must provide a birth certificate and, if the child is traveling with only one parent or a third party, a notarized consent letter from the non-traveling parent(s) is required to be presented at the border.

How will I receive the Mongolia eVisa?

Once your Mongolia eVisa application is approved, you’ll receive an email with a PDF. We recommend printing a physical copy to present to your airline and border officials at the port of entry. You should also keep a digital backup on your phone.

How long does the Mongolia eVisa processing take?

The Mongolia eVisa is usually processed quickly. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least 8 days before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.

What happens if my Mongolia eVisa application is denied?

If denied, you will receive a notification via email. The most common reasons for denial are incorrect passport details or a non-compliant photo. You can usually re-apply by submitting a completely new application with corrected information. iVisa offers denial protection. Our experts manually review your application before submission to prevent these common issues.
