Our Tanzania visa application process

How to apply for your Tanzania visa with iVisa

1

Complete your online application

Answer a few simple questions to find out whether you need a Tanzania Tourist eVisa, Business eVisa, or another document to visit the country. Then, upload your documents, and pay securely. You can save your progress and come back anytime. Most people finish in less than 10 minutes.

We’ll guide you through any unclear steps during the application process.

2

We review your application

The Tanzania visa system is known for being a bit picky – your photo must be the right size, and your passport scan must be clear.

Don’t worry – we review your whole application to catch anything that might cause delays.

3

We submit it for government processing

We’re not the Tanzania government, but we submit your application to them and are here for you along the way if there are any problems.

4

Get your Tanzania visa

We’ll email your approved eVisa and let you know how to use it for your trip.

Tanzania Visa on Arrival*

Tanzania offers a visa on arrival for many nationalities, including US, UK, EU, Canadian, and Australian citizens, at major airports like Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar.

It costs $50-$100 USD (cash) for a single-entry visa, but long queues are common, so applying for an eVisa in advance is recommended.

*We don't offer this visa, you can get it on arrival in Tanzania.

Tanzania Transit Visa*

The Transit Visa is intended for travelers passing through Tanzania en route to another country (and exiting the transit area at the airport) and cannot be used for tourism or business. It is valid for up to seven days, allows a single entry, and covers stays of the same duration. Extensions are not permitted.

*We currently don't offer this visa.

Tanzania visa policy

Most foreign nationals must obtain a visa to enter Tanzania, which can be done online or, in many cases, upon arrival at major ports of entry. The eVisa system covers a range of purposes, including tourism, business, transit, and family visits, and is recommended to avoid border queues and delays. Visa-required travelers who cannot use the eVisa system must secure a visa via a Tanzanian embassy before travel.

General Tanzania visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival
  • Recent passport-size photo
  • Travel details (flight itinerary and accommodation address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of stay
  • Supporting documents depending on visa type (such as a business invitation letter for a Business eVisa)
  • Visa-fee payment in cash (USD) - for visas on arrival

FAQs

The Tanzania eVisa is an official travel document that allows eligible foreign nationals to enter Tanzania for tourism, business, or transit purposes. It can be applied for online through the official Tanzania Immigration Services website before traveling.

The Tanzania eVisa can be used for tourism, visiting friends or relatives, attending meetings, workshops, and short-term business activities. Travelers cannot engage in employment or other long-term work activities with an eVisa.

The duration of stay depends on the visa type. For tourism and most short-term business visits, the eVisa allows stays of up to 90 days. For multiple-entry visas, each visit allows a stay of up to 90 days, although the visa itself may be valid for a longer period.

No, the Tanzania eVisa does not permit employment. Travelers intending to work must apply for the appropriate Work or Residence Permit before traveling.

The Tanzania Transit Visa allows foreign nationals to enter Tanzania for the sole purpose of transiting to another destination. It is valid for up to seven days and requires proof of onward travel and entry permission to the next country.

The Ordinary Visa is a single-entry visa mainly for tourism and short visits, valid for up to 90 days. The Multiple Entry Visa allows multiple entries within a validity period, typically up to one year, with each stay limited to 90 consecutive days. U.S. citizens are required to apply for the Multiple Entry Visa even for a single tourist visit.

Tanzania visas generally cannot be extended beyond their validity period. Travelers who need to stay longer must exit the country and apply for a new visa.

Yes, every traveler, including minors, must submit their own visa application. Minors cannot be included in their parents’ visa applications.
