How to get a Cuba Visa as a Canadian citizen

Updated on Aug 11, 2025
Summary
  • Visa class: Cuba Tourist Card
  • Visa details: Single entry
  • Validity: 90 days, with an option to extend for another 90 days
  • Maximum stay: 90 days per visit
  • Application process: Available through airlines, travel agencies, or online before departure

Canadian citizens planning a trip to Cuba must obtain a Tourist Card, which serves as a visa for entry into the country. This eliminates the need to visit a Cuban embassy or apply for a traditional visa, making it easier for Canadians to travel to Cuba.

Although we currently don’t handle Cuban visa applications, we can provide the information you need to apply confidently.

What is a Cuba Tourist Card?

The Cuba Tourist Card acts as a visa for tourists visiting Cuba. However, it's different from a traditional Cuba Visa in several ways:

  • Purpose: The Tourist Card is issued specifically for tourism and is widely available to citizens of most countries. It comes in two colors: a pink card for US citizens and travelers arriving in Cuba directly from the US and a green card for travelers arriving in Cuba on a flight that departed from any other country that’s not the US. In contrast, a Cuba Visa is required for longer stays or specific purposes like work or study.

  • Application process: The Tourist Card is easy to obtain through airlines, tour operators, or online before your trip. In comparison, applying for a Cuba Visa requires visiting a Cuban diplomatic mission.

  • Duration of stay: With a Tourist Card, Canadians can stay in Cuba for up to 90 days, with the option to extend for an additional 90 days. The Tourist Card is valid for single-entry only. A traditional visa may allow for different lengths of stay depending on the purpose of your visit.

What are the requirements to enter Cuba?

To enter Cuba, Canadian citizens need the following:

  • Valid passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Cuba.

  • Tourist Card: This is the equivalent of a visa for entry into Cuba.

  • Flight itinerary: Proof of onward or return travel.

  • Travel insurance: This is mandatory for all visitors and covers medical expenses. If you don't have insurance, you’ll need to purchase it upon arrival

How to apply for a Cuba visa for Canadian citizens

For Canadian travelers, the Cuba Tourist Card can be obtained in several ways:

  • Through travel agencies or airlines that offer direct flights from Canada. Many airlines, such as Air Canada, include the Tourist Card in the cost of the flight.

  • If you’re traveling independently, you can obtain the Tourist Card from a Cuban government office or purchase it online.

  • The Tourist Card is also available at certain airports before departure.

Tips for Canadian travelers

  • Check your passport: Ensure your passport has at least 6 months of validity to avoid complications at entry.

  • Confirm with your airline: If booking a package, verify that the Tourist Card is included in your fare.

  • Independent travelers: Secure the Tourist Card in advance or be prepared to purchase it at the airport before departure.

Important Update: We currently don’t offer this travel document. Please visit the official Cuban Government website to apply for this visa.
