If you're heading to Moldova, you might need an invitation letter.

This invitation letter isn't just any document—it's a key part of your visa application. It shows why you're visiting, whether it's for work, to see family, or just to explore.

Getting this letter is an important step. It tells the Moldovan authorities that your visit has a clear purpose and helps smooth the visa process. Let’s further explore what the invitation letter is, why it matters, and how getting it right can make your travel plans go more smoothly.

What is a Moldova Invitation Letter?

The Moldova Invitation Letter is a formal document used to verify the reason for your travel to Moldova. It's required for visitors who need a visa to enter the country, particularly if they're coming for business, work, study, or to join family members living there. This letter must come from a person or a company in Moldova, stating the purpose and duration of your visit.

Not everyone traveling to Moldova requires this letter. Citizens from more than 60 countries, including Afghanistan, South Africa, Belize, Jamaica, India, Vietnam, the UAE, and Haiti, are required to obtain one before applying for a Moldovian visa. To see the full list of countries whose citizens need an invitation letter, please visit the Moldovia Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

But there's a special exemption for some countries. Citizens from countries like Bahrain, China, Kenya, and the Philippines, which normally need an invitation letter, don't have to get one if they already have valid visas or residence permits from the EU, Schengen Zone, the UK, the USA, or Canada.

How to get a Moldova Invitation Letter

The Moldova Invitation Letter is issued by the General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM) of the Republic of Moldova. Moldovan citizens or individuals with permanent or temporary residence in Moldova or legal entities registered in Moldova can apply to GIM on behalf of a foreign visitor to obtain this invitation.

The following requirements are typically needed when applying for the letter:

  • Identification details: Full name, passport number, and personal information.

  • Documents proving purpose of visit: Depending on the reason for the trip, different documents are required, such as proof of relationship for family visits, business registration for commercial visits, or a letter from an educational institution for academic visits.

  • Sponsor information: Details of the individual or legal entity in Moldova inviting you, including their contact information and relationship to the guest.

  • Travel itinerary: Planned dates of arrival and departure, and accommodation details in Moldova.

  • Financial proof: Bank statements or financial documents to show your ability to cover expenses during the stay.

  • Legal status of sponsor: If the sponsor is a legal entity, documents proving its registration and existence in Moldova.

  • Application form: Properly filled out and signed by the sponsor, which is specific to the type of invitation letter required.

Once you’ve found a sponsor and have the abovementioned requirements, these are the steps to follow when applying for the letter:

  1. Submit the application and attach supporting documents. The sponsor must fill out the invitation letter application form. This can be done through the GIM website or by visiting their office in person.

  2. Pay the processing fee. There’s a processing fee for the invitation letter, which varies based on the urgency and type of application.

  3. Review and approval. After submission, the application is reviewed by the Moldovan authorities, and if everything is in order, the invitation letter is issued. This process usually takes around 10 working days but can be expedited for urgent cases.

  4. Receive the invitation letter. The sponsor receives the approved invitation letter and then sends it to you for your visa application.

Once you have the letter, you’ll need to apply for a Moldovan visa within 90 days from the date of approval of the invitation.
