Nepal Visa on Arrival (VOA)

The Nepal VOA is the official tourist visa for Nepal and is designed for travelers visiting the country for tourism, trekking, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends.

With this visa, you can:

  • 🏔️ Trek through the Himalayas and visit cultural sites
  • ⛺ Join wildlife tours, rafting, and adventure activities
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Visit family or friends living in Nepal

The VOA does not allow you to work, study, or volunteer in Nepal. For employment, study, or volunteer programs, you will need to apply for a different visa through a Nepalese embassy or consulate before you travel.

The visa on arrival is available for 15, 30, or 90 days, with the option to extend your stay in Nepal for up to 150 days in a calendar year.

To apply for the VOA, you’ll need:

  • 🛂 A passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date
  • 📝 A completed online visa application form with a barcode printout
  • 💳 Payment for the visa fee and iVisa service fee

At the airport, you will submit your completed form, pay the visa fee in cash at the payment counter, and present your documents at the immigration desk. Your visa will then be placed in your passport, allowing you to enter Nepal and start your journey.

Nepal visa policy

Citizens of India do not need a visa to enter Nepal and can travel using a valid passport or voter ID card. Holders of diplomatic and official/service passports from select countries (including China, Brazil, and Russia) can enter Nepal without a visa for up to 30 days.

For most travelers, Nepal offers a visa on arrival system allowing them to apply online before travel or fill out forms at the airport or border. Travelers can choose a 15-day, 30-day, or 90-day visa for tourism, with the option to extend their stay in Nepal up to 150 days per calendar year. SAARC nationals (except Afghanistan) can receive a free 30-day visa once per year.

For longer stays and specialized purposes, Nepal provides additional visa categories through embassy or in-country applications. These include business visas for investment and business activities, student visas for academic programs, residence visas, and non-tourist visas for purposes like volunteering or working with recognized organizations in Nepal.

All travelers, regardless of visa type, must enter Nepal with a passport valid for at least six months beyond their arrival date and at least two blank pages for visa stamps.

Overstaying is taken seriously in Nepal. Fines are imposed for each day of overstay, and significant violations can lead to detention, deportation, or re-entry bans. Travelers should carefully track their authorized stay and apply for extensions before their visa expires if needed.

We recommend checking the official Nepal Department of Immigration website or contacting the nearest Nepalese embassy before traveling to confirm the latest requirements.
