FAQs

Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality. Citizens of India can enter Nepal without a visa using a valid passport or voter ID. Travelers from most other countries, including the US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada, and China, need a visa, which can be obtained on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or land borders. Some nationalities must apply in advance through a Nepalese embassy before traveling.
Yes, most travelers can get a visa on arrival for Nepal at the airport in Kathmandu and at designated land border entry points. You can choose between a 15-day, 30-day, or 90-day visa for tourism, trekking, and visiting family, with the option to extend your stay up to 150 days in a calendar year while in Nepal.
The visa on arrival fees for Nepal depend on the length of stay you choose. A 15-day visa costs USD 30, a 30-day visa costs USD 50, and a 90-day visa costs USD 125. Payment is made in cash at the airport or land border using USD, EUR, or other major currencies.
For a Nepal visa on arrival, you need a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date with at least two blank pages, a completed online visa form with a barcode printout, and a passport photo (optional, as photo booths are available at the airport). Immigration officers may also request proof of onward travel and proof of accommodation in Nepal.
Yes, you can extend your Nepal tourist visa while in the country. Tourist visas can be extended for a total stay of up to 150 days in a calendar year. Extensions can be arranged through the Department of Immigration offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara before your current visa expires.
Travel insurance is not mandatory for entry into Nepal, but it is highly recommended, especially if you plan to trek or engage in adventure activities. Many trekking permits require proof of insurance that covers emergency evacuation and medical treatment in Nepal.
