Argentina now allows US permanent residents to enter the country for tourism or business without obtaining an additional visa. The Dirección Nacional de Migraciones, the country's immigration authority under the Ministry of National Security, announced the policy update on its official website on January 14, 2026.
The decision means that a valid US green card is now sufficient documentation to enter Argentina as a tourist or business visitor.
"Holders of legal permanent residences issued by the United States meet sufficient conditions for their entry into the country without the need for additional requirements."
The agency explained that the measure is based on trust in the strict security mechanisms used by US immigration services, noting that green cards "are granted after rigorous security and evaluation processes."
Why Argentina made this change
Argentina's immigration authority explained that the policy aims to simplify immigration procedures, facilitate entry for travelers, and promote commercial and tourist ties with the United States, while maintaining high security standards.
Previously, nationals of certain countries who held specific US visas could enter Argentina by applying for an Electronic Travel Authorization (AVE) instead of an Argentine visa. This benefit was limited to holders of B1, B2, J, O, P (P1, P2, P3), E, or H-1B visas.
Now, US green card holders are also eligible to use the AVE system for entry.
