Mozambique opens a digital platform for visas and travel authorization
Mozambique rolled out a digital platform for visa and travel-authorization applications on February 11, 2026, in partnership with VFS Global. President Daniel Francisco Chapo launched the system, which replaces the country’s previous online portal.
Who needs an ETA
Citizens of 29 countries qualify for a 30-day visa waiver but must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) at least 48 hours before departure. Those countries are Belgium, Canada, China, Côte d’Ivoire, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Who needs a full eVisa
Travelers from other nations must apply for a full eVisa through the portal. They receive a preliminary document by email that serves as travel authorization and proof of entry intent, and the final visa is issued at the border.
Who cannot use the platform
Nationals of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal, and Somalia cannot use the digital platform and must apply in person at a Mozambican embassy or mission.
The government advised anyone with a pending application on the old system to wait for email updates rather than reapply.
