Panama is a small country that links Central America with South America thanks to its popular “Panama Canal”. This incredible human-made structure links the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean to create an essential marine route for the entire continent. Besides, Panama has the first Spanish city on the coasts of the South Sea or the Pacific Ocean, Panama City, which was founded in 1519, and that’s why it is also the oldest city on the mainland that exists to this day. This country has many exciting spots despite its size. You can enjoy everything from modern skyscrapers to beautiful parks, colonial buildings, or even a fantastic tour of the islands nearby. Also, Panama has a wide variety of ecosystems, so you can not only visit beaches but also volcanoes and even hidden jungles. Panama is home to fascinating tourist sites, starting with the Panama Canal. This canal is an interoceanic navigation route located between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, which crosses the narrowest point of the isthmus of Panama. This construction was designed to improve trade routes on the continent. You can visit this place according to their schedules, besides, ticket prices don’t exceed 8 USD. You can find many museums and information points for visitors on the Panama Canal. One of them is the Miraflores Visitor Center. Miraflores is one of the three locks that are part of the Panama Canal, and it is also the name of the small lake that separates these locks from those found in Pedro Miguel upstream. Getting to this place is not complicated in the capital and it’s a great way to learn more information about the entire area. When you plan your visit to the capital, don’t forget to enter Panama Viejo, as it is the archaeological site where the city of Panama was located from its foundation in 1519 to 1671. In this place, authorized tours are available to give you details about the colonial history of the country. Other points that you shouldn’t overlook when staying in Panama City are the Amador Causeway, Ancon hill, and the Metropolitan Natural Park. Keep in mind that the Metropolitan Natural Park is a protected area, especially because it houses a great variety of important animal species for the country, including frogs, turtles, and painted rabbits, some of which are in danger of extinction. This park is located in the village of Ancon, on Juan Pablo II Avenue. Aside from the tourist spots that you can visit in Panama City, there are other places that you cannot lose sight of, be it for their scenic beauty or the outdoor activities that can entertain you. One of these places is the San Blas Archipelago, a group of 365 small islands and islets, of which only about 80 are inhabited. In this place, you can enjoy many beaches with crystalline and calm waters, as well as soft white sand and palm trees. It should be noted that this set of islands is home to the Guna indigenous people, who come from the Guna Yala region, along the Caribbean coast of Panama. Panama has many islands to explore, so it will depend on your personal preferences which are the best to visit during your stay. We can highlight some of the most famous, which are the Island of Taboga and Contadora Island. In the case of Taboga, this is a volcanic island located in the Gulf of Panama that stands out for its exuberant tropical vegetation, while Contadora stands out for being part of the Pearl Archipelago, so you can be sure that you’ll enjoy an incredible ocean view while staying on that island. Another very interesting place to visit is Barú volcano, considered the highest elevation in Panama and the highest volcano in southern Central America, with a height of 3475 meters above sea level. Interesting fact: this volcano had a height greater than 4600 m with the peak covered with snow, but this collapsed after a lateral eruption that reduced its height to what it currently stands at. These are just some of the most popular places you can visit in Panama, as you can easily fall in love with this country thanks to its incredible beach landscapes and its varied flora and fauna. Take into account that the climate is usually very warm all year round, so it will be essential for you to wear light clothes, as well as carrying a bottle of water at all times so that you can stay hydrated on the hottest days. As for travel documents, these will depend on your nationality. For some countries, a visa or eVisa may be of prime importance, but for others it's not. What is mandatory for any traveler is the Panama Electronic Affidavit, as this document was recently introduced. The Panama Electronic Affidavit is processed electronically, so it won’t take you long to obtain it. Additionally, the Panama Electronic Affidavit is not expensive and it only requires you to answer a series of basic questions to enter the country without a problem. Keep in mind that you’ll have to offer basic information about your health status, your flight, and your contact details so that you can have the Panama Electronic Affidavit as fast as possible. Also, you’ll have to present a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test result for entry. Don’t forget that once you’re there, you have to follow the country’s safety protocols.
