Rwanda visa policy

Citizens of all countries are eligible to apply for a Rwanda eVisa online or obtain a visa on arrival for stays up to 30 days for tourism, family visits, and short business trips. The visa can be extended once inside Rwanda for an additional 30 days through the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE). Citizens of East African Community (EAC) countries benefit from visa-free entry, while travelers from COMESA member states receive visas on arrival at no fee for 90 days.

For longer stays or specialized purposes, Rwanda offers a range of temporary residence permits and visas, including those for business investors, employment, students, researchers, and diplomats. These permits are processed through the DGIE’s online Irembo platform, requiring supporting documentation such as admission letters for study, employment contracts for work, and investment registration for business permits.

All travelers must enter Rwanda with a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival, with at least one blank page for entry stamps. Proof of accommodation, return or onward travel, and sometimes vaccination certificates (such as yellow fever) may be required, depending on the traveler’s departure country.

We recommend checking the official Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration website or consulting with the nearest Rwandan consulate before travel to confirm the latest entry requirements.
