Rwandan visa policy for American citizens

US citizens need a visa to travel to Rwanda. The most common option is the Rwandan eVisa, which can be applied for before departure. Rwanda also allows US passport holders to obtain a visa on arrival, but applying online in advance is recommended to avoid delays.

iVisa offers two Rwandan entry documents for US travelers:

  • Rwandan eVisa: A required electronic visa that allows US citizens to enter Rwanda for tourism or business for up to 30 days.

  • East Africa Tourist Visa: A regional visa that allows travel between Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya for up to 90 days, starting with the country of first entry.

General Rwanda visa requirements for US travelers are:

  • US passport valid for the duration of the stay (6 months recommended)
  • Passport-style photograph
  • Proof of accommodation in Rwanda
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Evidence of sufficient funds
  • Travel itinerary
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose or situation
