- Who it's for
- Travelers touring the region who want one authorization covering Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda instead of three separate ones. You apply through the country you plan to enter first.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism only, so sightseeing, safaris, and family visits across the three countries. Employment is not allowed on it, and there is no business version of the same authorization.
- How you travel
- It is a multiple-entry visa within the three-country bloc, and you can arrive by air, land, or sea. Your first entry has to be through the country you applied to, and leaving the bloc for somewhere like Tanzania or Burundi ends the multiple-entry privilege.
- Delivery format
- You receive a digital visa as a PDF by email. Bring a printed copy for boarding and arrival. Once it expires, or once you have left all three countries, it cannot be renewed or extended.
- Minors and groups
- A child traveling on their own passport needs their own application. A minor listed on a parent or guardian's passport is covered by that adult's visa. There is no combined application for a group, so every traveler files separately.
- Validity
- Valid for 90 days
- Entry
- Multiple entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 90 days per entry
- Processing time
- Get it in as fast as 15 minutes

I paid an extra $100 for a rush fee and ivisa did not deliver on what I paid for. I'd like a refund on my rush fee.
I applied for the three country visa (Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda). The application process is very straight forward and clearly laid out. It takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on if you can find everything you need. but as soon as I completed the process, it gave very clear feedback on the status and step that my application was at. Three days later, I received my letters of acceptance. I would use iVisa again. BTW, It only cost me $100 per person for the three countries, multiple entry visa, 90 days. sure does beat applying for 3 visas and paying $300.
I had some difficulty. A bit frustrating had to go to my travel adviser for help
I paid you $45 additional to get it within a few days and now you tell me I’ll have to pick up my visa in Africa
I felt good about using this service until I was told that I couldn't get my East Africa Tourist visa until I arrive in Rwanda. Everything I'm reading says that I need to get it BEFORE I arrive, not upon arrival. So now I've spent $150 and have no visa and will be nervous about not being able to get it when I arrive in Rwanda. Ugh...not happy at all. A letter from you guys saying I been "approved," doesn't give me much confidence.
Very easy to use! Very nice to not have added stress prior to my trip!! Thank you
This was much easier than the visa applications I did before. However, I have yet to use the processed visa, or receive it, so I can't completely say how it turned out The online help was invaluable.
Im really surprised how they did my visa so quick I recommend this website for everyone
Excellent service. The response from was instant while I submitted my visa application
The system didn’t capture all the information needed so there were endless emails forward and back with the support team which was entirely inefficient. Email was also an insecure way of transmitting personal information like passport and SSN details. In the end they didn’t even provide the visa - just a receipt for the charge that I should take with me to the airport so I wouldn’t be charged twice. Awful experience. Would not recommend.
Rwanda visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the Rwanda East Africa Visa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Which countries are included in the East Africa Tourist Visa?
The East Africa Tourist Visa (EATV) is a joint initiative that covers Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda. It allows you to move freely between these three nations using a single permit. Please note that neighboring countries like Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are not part of this agreement and require separate visas.
What is the first entry rule for the East Africa Visa?
You must apply for the EATV through the country that serves as your first point of entry into the region. For example, if your flight lands in Kigali, you must apply through Rwanda. If you arrive in Rwanda with an EATV issued by Uganda or Kenya, it will be considered invalid, and you’ll be required to purchase a new visa on the spot.
Can I visit Tanzania or Zanzibar and return on the Rwanda East Africa Visa?
No. The East Africa Tourist Visa is a multiple-entry visa only within the Rwanda-Kenya-Uganda zone. The moment you cross the border into a non-participating country (like Tanzania or Ethiopia), your East Africa Tourist Visa expires immediately, even if you have days remaining. You would need a new visa to re-enter any of the three countries.
Does the 90-day validity for the Rwanda East Africa Visa start from the issue date or entry date?
The 90-day clock officially starts on the date of your first entry into Rwanda, not the date the visa was approved. However, you must enter Rwanda within a specific window (usually 90 days from the date of issuance) for the visa to remain valid for use.
Can I use the East Africa Visa for multiple entries into the same country?
Yes. You can enter and exit Rwanda, Kenya, or Uganda as many times as you like within the 90-day period, provided you do not leave the three-country bloc. This makes it ideal for itineraries that involve flying between Kigali and Nairobi multiple times or crossing land borders for primate trekking.
Are there any nationalities that cannot apply for the Rwanda East Africa Visa?
The Rwanda East Africa Visa is available to most nationalities that are eligible for standard tourist visas. However, citizens of countries that require prior security clearance (such as Afghanistan, Iraq, or Syria) typically cannot use the joint visa system and must apply for individual, single-country visas through the respective embassies.
How long can I stay in the region with the Rwanda East Africa Visa?
The East Africa Tourist Visa allows a stay of up to 90 days. It’s a multiple-entry visa within the three participating countries (Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda). However, if you travel outside these three countries (e.g., to Tanzania), the visa becomes invalid immediately.
Do children/minors need their own Rwanda East Africa Visa?
Yes. There are no age exemptions for this visa; every traveler, including infants, must have their own individual visa. For minors, you must upload a birth certificate and, if traveling with only one parent, a notarized consent letter from the non-traveling parent.
Do I need the East Africa Visa to transit in Rwanda?
If you're remaining in the airport transit area for less than 24 hours, you don't need a visa. However, if you plan to leave the airport or have a long layover where you clear immigration, a Transit Visa (valid for 72 hours) is more cost-effective than the 90-day East Africa Visa.
Can I extend the Rwanda East Africa Visa?
No. The East Africa Tourist Visa cannot be extended or renewed. If you need to stay longer than 90 days, you must exit the three-country zone and apply for a new visa or a specific single-country permit.
How will I receive the Rwanda East Africa Visa?
Once your Rwanda East Africa Visa application is approved, you’ll receive an email with a PDF. We recommend printing a physical copy to present at the border of your first entry point (Rwanda) and keep it with your passport throughout your trip.
How long does the Rwanda East Africa Visa processing take?
The Rwanda East Africa Visa is usually processed quickly. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least 2 days before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.
What happens if my Rwanda East Africa Visa application is denied?
If denied, you will receive a notification via email. The most common reasons for denial are applying through the wrong country (you must apply to the country you enter first) or poor-quality passport scans. You can usually re-apply by submitting a completely new application with corrected information. iVisa offers denial protection. Our experts manually review your application before submission to prevent these common issues.
