Austria visa requirements for Albanian citizens

Albanians do not currently need a visa to visit Austria for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business. However, once ETIAS starts operating and its transitional period ends, Albanian travelers will need to obtain an ETIAS authorization before entering Austria or any other Schengen Area country. ETIAS has no confirmed start date: the EU withdrew its last-quarter-of-2026 target in July 2026 and has said it will give several months' notice. Once it starts, a transitional period of at least six months follows, in which travelers without one can still enter if they meet the other entry conditions. A grace period of at least six months follows, during which a traveler's first entry after the transition can still be made without one.

ETIAS for Austria: A mandatory online travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen Area. Once implemented, it will allow Albanians to enter Austria for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit. It will be valid for 3 years or until the traveler’s passport expires.

  • I didn't get my results of traveling to Austria until less than a week before my trip. It told me I had to quarantine for 10 days when I was only going to be there for 7 for a ski trip. The results were very vague and inconsistent with the covid rules on the Austrian website. Needless to say, I had to cancel my trip that had been rescheduled twice over the past two years due to covid. I am out $2000 because of the last minute notice and inconsistent answers. I want my money back!

Do Albanians need a visa for Austria?

No, Albanians do not need a visa to visit Austria for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, once ETIAS starts operating and its transitional period ends, Albanian travelers will need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before entering Austria or any other Schengen Area country.

What is the processing time for ETIAS for Austria for Albanians?

The ETIAS system has not launched yet, so official processing times have not been confirmed. Most applications are expected to be processed quickly once the system becomes operational. With iVisa, you can apply for the ETIAS for Austria online and receive expert guidance throughout the process.

How long can Albanians stay in Austria?

Albanians can stay in Austria and the wider Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit without a visa. Once ETIAS becomes mandatory, travelers will still be able to stay for up to 90 days within a 180-day period under the same conditions.

Do Albanians need a visa or ETIAS when transiting through Austria?

Albanian passport holders generally do not need a visa for airport transit in Austria if they remain in the international transit area and do not pass through immigration. If you need to leave the airport or enter the Schengen Area during transit, you must meet the standard entry requirements, such as having an ETIAS (once required).

Do Albanians need a new ETIAS for each country in the Schengen Zone?

No, the ETIAS you use to enter Austria is valid for all 30 countries under the ETIAS scheme. You don’t need to apply for a new one for every country you visit.

Can Albanians extend their stay in Austria?

Short stays cannot normally be extended, but exceptional cases exist (medical, force majeure).
