Dutch visa policy for Albanian citizens

Albanian citizens do not currently need a visa to visit the Netherlands for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business. However, once the new travel authorization system is operational, Albanian travelers will need to obtain an ETIAS authorization before entering the Netherlands or any other Schengen Area country. The system is currently expected to be fully implemented by the end of 2026.

Albanians will need one Dutch entry document:

  • ETIAS for the Netherlands: A mandatory online travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen Area. Once implemented, it will allow Albanian citizens to enter the Netherlands for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit.

General Netherlands entry requirements for Albanian travelers are:

  • Albania passport valid for at least six months
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
  • Travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical and repatriation costs
  • Travel itinerary or purpose of visit
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Frequently asked questions about getting the Netherlands visa with a Albania passport

Albanian citizens do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) in the Netherlands, provided they hold a biometric passport. This visa-free access applies to tourism, business, and family visits. However, starting in late 2026, Albanian travelers will be required to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before entering the Schengen Area.

The ETIAS system has not launched yet, so official processing times have not been confirmed. Most applications are expected to be processed quickly once the system becomes operational. With iVisa, you can apply for the ETIAS for the Netherlands online and receive expert guidance throughout the process.

Albanian nationals can stay in the Netherlands for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This limit applies across the entire Schengen Area. The 180 days are calculated on a rolling basis, looking back from each day of your stay. For stays longer than 90 days, you must apply for a long-stay visa or residence permit.

Albanian citizens do not need an airport transit visa for the Netherlands if they hold a biometric passport and remain in the international transit zone. However, starting in late 2026, ETIAS authorization will be mandatory for all transit. If you leave the airport, a biometric passport is required.

Albanian nationals can only extend their stay in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances, such as serious illness or flight cancellations due to force majeure. Extensions for tourism are generally not granted. You must apply through the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) before your 90-day limit expires.
