Polish visa policy for Albanian citizens

Albanian citizens holding a biometric passport do not currently need a visa to visit Poland for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits. However, starting in late 2026, travelers from Albania will need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before entering Poland or other Schengen Area countries.

Albanian travelers will need one Poland entry document:

  • ETIAS for Poland: A mandatory online travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen Area. Once implemented, it will allow Albanian citizens to enter Poland for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit.

General Poland entry requirements for Albanian travelers are:

  • Albanian biometric passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date (non-biometric holders must apply for a Schengen C-type visa)
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
  • Valid travel medical insurance with a minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation (e.g., business contact details or conference invitation)

Frequently asked questions about getting the Poland visa with a Albania passport

If you hold an Albanian biometric passport, you don’t need a visa for short stays (tourism, business, or family visits) of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. However, if you have an older, non-biometric passport, you must apply for a standard Schengen C-type visa at the Polish Embassy in Tirana before you travel.

Starting in late 2026, biometric passport holders from Albania will be required to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) authorization before departure. This is a mandatory electronic travel permit that’ll be valid for three years and must be applied for online. Without an approved ETIAS, you won't be allowed to board your flight.

No. You cannot legally work in Poland on a visa-free entry alone. To be employed, you must have a valid work permit issued by a Polish Voivodeship office and a corresponding National D-type visa for work purposes. Albania is not part of Poland’s simplified employer declaration scheme, so a full work permit is required for all types of employment.

If you plan to stay beyond the 90-day limit, you must apply for a National Visa (D-type) at a Polish consulate before your trip. This visa allows stays of up to one year for work, study, or family reasons. If you’re already in Poland and wish to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit (karta pobytu) at a local Voivodeship office before your 90-day legal stay expires.

No, the limit doesn't reset upon exit. It’s calculated on a rolling 180-day basis across the entire Schengen Area. This means any time spent in other Schengen countries (like Italy, Greece, or Germany) counts toward your 90-day total. You must leave the Schengen zone once you hit 90 days and wait until you have \"earned\"" more days back based on the rolling window.
