Bhutan does not offer visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival. Your eVisa must be approved before departure and is issued together with your travel clearance.
Processing times can vary depending on application volume and the accuracy of your documents, so it is recommended to apply at least one week before travel.
Your visa is issued only for the specific travel period you request, and you are not allowed to stay beyond the approved dates unless you apply for an extension.
All travelers to Bhutan must pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) for each day of stay. The current fee is:
The SDF is mandatory and is included in your travel authorization.
When applying for a minor, legal guardians must provide additional documents:
This is typically demonstrated with a return or onward ticket matching your approved travel dates.
However, travelers are advised to be up to date on routine vaccinations and consider Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and other vaccines based on their travel plans.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if you are arriving from a country with a yellow fever risk.
You must apply for an extension before your current eVisa expires by visiting the Department of Immigration in Thimphu. You will need to pay the Sustainable Development Fee for the additional days, and processing can take up to five days.
Submitting accurate documents and applying well in advance of travel helps reduce the risk of rejection.
