French visa policy for Israeli citizens

Israeli citizens do not currently need a visa to visit France for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business. However, once the new travel authorization system is operational, Israeli travelers will need to obtain an ETIAS authorization before entering France or any other Schengen Area country. The system is currently expected to be fully implemented by the end of 2026.

Israelis will need one French entry document:

  • ETIAS for France: A mandatory online travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen Area. Once implemented, it will allow Israeli citizens to enter France for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit.

General France entry requirements for Israeli travelers are:

  • Israel passport valid for at least six months
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
  • Travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical and repatriation costs
  • Travel itinerary or purpose of visit
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Frequently asked questions about getting the France visa with a Israel passport

Israeli citizens do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) in France for tourism or business. However, travelers must hold a biometric passport valid for at least three months beyond their departure date. Starting in late 2026, Israeli citizens will be required to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before arrival.

The ETIAS system has not launched yet, so official processing times have not been confirmed. Most applications are expected to be processed quickly once the system becomes operational. With iVisa, you can apply for the ETIAS for France online and receive expert guidance throughout the process.

Israeli nationals can stay in France for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. This limit is calculated on a rolling basis and applies to the entire Schengen Area collectively. For stays exceeding 90 days, such as for work, study, or long-term residence, you must apply for a national long-stay visa before your arrival.

Israeli citizens do not need a visa to transit through France if they remain in the airport's international zone. However, if you leave this zone (e.g., to change airports), visa-free entry rules apply. Starting in late 2026, ETIAS authorization will be required for all transit.

Israeli nationals can only extend their stay in exceptional circumstances, such as a serious medical emergency or force majeure preventing departure. You must apply at the local prefecture before your 90 days expire. Extensions for tourism are not granted; otherwise, you must leave the Schengen Area.
