FAQs

Visa-exempt travelers will need to apply for ETIAS before traveling to Romania once the system becomes operational. ETIAS will be linked electronically to your passport and will be valid for multiple short stays within its validity period.
Yes. A valid Schengen Visa allows short stays in Romania, provided it is still valid and you have not exceeded your permitted days within the Schengen Area. The same applies to valid multiple-entry national visas or residence permits issued by Schengen countries.
A Romania Schengen Visa (Type C) allows short stays for tourism, business, or family visits. A national visa (Type D) is required for long-term stays such as work, study, or residence. Long-stay visas must be obtained before traveling and follow different approval procedures.
Short stays in Romania follow the Schengen rule allowing up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. The 180-day period is calculated backward from each day of stay, and time spent in other Schengen countries counts toward the same total.
No. Short-stay visas cannot be converted into work, study, or residence permits from within Romania. If you intend to stay long term, you must apply for the appropriate national visa before traveling.
