Get the United Kingdom visa for Austrian citizens

Austrian citizens do not need a visa for short stays up to six months for tourism or business. However, since 2 April 2025, they must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before traveling. The ETA is digitally linked to your passport and is typically valid for two years. A full visa is still required for stays exceeding six months.

Most UK ETA applications are processed within minutes, with many applicants receiving an automatic decision almost immediately. However, allow up to 3 working days in case manual security checks are required. It is strongly recommended to apply at least 72 hours before your departure to avoid any travel disruptions or boarding denials.
