[collapse-start]How long can United Kingdom nationals stay in Australia? As a United Kingdom national, the length of time you can stay in Australia depends entirely on which visa you hold. There is no "one size fits all" duration, but here are the limits for the most common options:
Short-Term Visits (Up to 3 Months) The eVisitor (Subclass 651) is the standard choice for most British tourists and business travelers. Maximum stay: 3 months per visit. Total validity: The visa is valid for 12 months from the date it is granted. Entries: It allows for multiple entries, meaning you can leave Australia and return as many times as you like within that year, provided each stay is under 90 days.
Extended Tourist Stays (Up to 12 Months) If you wish to stay longer than 3 months for a holiday or to visit family, you must apply for the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600). Maximum stay: Usually 6 or 12 months (determined by the Department of Home Affairs on a case-by-case basis).
Working Holiday Stays (Up to 3 Years) For UK citizens aged 18 to 35, the Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) offers a significant stay period. Initial stay: 12 months. Extensions: You can apply for a second and third year, potentially staying for a total of 3 years.
Important Change for 2026: Under the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement, British passport holders no longer need to perform \"specified work\"" (like farm work) to qualify for their second or third-year visas. You can simply apply for the extension.
