The Australia Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) is a travel document for citizens of countries not eligible for an ETA or eVisitor, or for those who wish to stay in Australia for longer than three months. It is meant for tourism, visiting family, or short-term business activities. It is an excellent option for travelers who need a longer stay (up to 12 months) or who are traveling from eligible countries.

- Who it's for
- Travelers whose nationality is not eligible for an ETA or the Australia eVisitor, and travelers who need longer than a short visit. We handle the tourist stream lodged from outside Australia, so you must be outside the country both when you apply and when a decision is made.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism, visiting friends and family, cruising, and short business visitor activities. It does not cover work, long-term study or living in Australia. It is a visitor visa, not a transit product, so passengers merely passing through are normally directed to a transit visa instead.
- Delivery format
- An email with a PDF, and the visa is linked electronically to your passport. Applicants from a long list of countries of lodgement may also need to give biometrics in person at a collection center.
- Traveling with minors
- Children need a birth certificate or equivalent identity document, the legal guardian's passport page, and a consent form signed in front of a notary public. Where one parent has sole custody, only that parent signs.
- Good to know
- The visa cannot be extended, and the length of stay you are granted is set by the deciding officer rather than chosen by you. Health examinations such as a chest x-ray can be requested after you lodge, depending on your circumstances and how long you intend to stay.
- Validity
- Valid for 1 year
- Entry
- Multiple entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 90 days per entry
- Processing time
- Get it in as fast as 30 days

I would not have managed my visa without your help. Everytime I was going to give up your agents were there to help me. Thank you
Very good communication both by email and whatsapp. They held my hand throughout the process, clearing up any doubts I had. It may cost more, but definitely worth it.
iVisa have been very prompt and always updating me on the application process
The friendly service and speed of processing everything. I was pleasantly surprised and it was a pleasure.
Ease of instruction and constant update on the process. Great customer service
I would definitely recommend this guys they are super efficient and helpful
no nonsense quick response . Easy to understand and extremely helpful for elderly persons like myself . I recommend iVisa with no reservation .
Alana was prompt with replies, always able to help me, kind with good and relevant suggestions. Once I got passed the new template addition I was fine. I do however suggest that you let previous visa holders know in ADVANCE that there are now templates to be used. I collected much of my data, invitation letter etc as done previously in 2022 and then had to redo a lot of it. Please also consider a three year visa again - the additional cost of an annual visa application fee to an annual flight to Melbourne ( equivalent to a third of the price of the flight!) is difficult especially when retired !! Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback, sincerely, felicity Maclennan-smith
Australia visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the Australia Visitor Visa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Do I need an eVisitor (Subclass 651), ETA (Subclass 601), or a Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)?
The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) is for travelers who are not from "eligible" countries (like the EU, US, or UK) or for those who want to stay in Australia for more than 3 months at a time for tourism. If you are from India, China, or many other nations, the Subclass 600 is usually your main option for tourism or business.
What activities are permitted on a Visitor Visa?
You can visit Australia with a Subclass 600 visa to: Enjoy a holiday or cruise; Visit family and friends; Conduct business visitor activities (attending meetings or conferences); Study or train for up to 3 months. Note: You cannot work for an Australian employer or sell goods/services to the public.
How will I receive the Australia Visitor Visa?
Once approved, your visa grant letter is sent to your email. While it is electronically linked to your passport, we strongly recommend keeping a printed copy or a digital version on your mobile device for immigration officers upon arrival. If you've applied through iVisa, you can find a copy of your visa grant letter in your dashboard.
How long can I stay in Australia with a Visitor Visa?
The stay duration depends on what the Department of Home Affairs grants you, depending on your individual situation, travel purpose, and travel dates. Most tourist streams allow for 3, 6, or 12 months per visit, and offer a single- or multiple-entry allowance. Always check your specific visa grant letter for the "Stay Period" and "Latest Arrival" dates.
How long does Australia Visitor Visa processing take?
Processing for the Subclass 600 is longer than the ETA or eVisitor Visa. It typically takes several weeks, depending on the volume of applications and the complexity of your case. iVisa offers expedited processing options and an expert review, so your application is submitted without errors and as quickly as possible.
What happens if my Australia Visitor Visa application is denied?
If denied, the Australian Department of Home Affairs will provide a letter stating the reasons. Common reasons include "lack of incentive to return home." iVisa can help you reapply or apply for a different visa, depending on the situation. iVisa also offers denial protection as an add-on to your application (optional).
What are the most common reasons for an Australia Visitor Visa application to be denied?
The most common reasons are typos in the passport number or date of birth, or failing to meet "genuine visitor" requirements. If you have a criminal record or certain health conditions, the application may also be flagged for further review or denial. iVisa's expert review catches any errors to avoid delays and meet all Australian government document requirements before submission.
Can I extend my Australia Visitor Visa?
You cannot "extend" the visa itself, but you can apply for a new Visitor Visa while in Australia if your current visa does not have a "No Further Stay" condition (Condition 8503). You must apply at least two weeks before your current visa expires.
Do I need a health exam for the Australia Visitor Visa?
You might. Depending on your age, the length of your stay, and where you have traveled recently, you may be asked to complete a chest X-ray or medical exam. If you are over 75 years old, a health assessment is almost always required.
