Zambia recently expanded its visa-exempt list.

Citizens of the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, China, South Korea, and the EU do NOT need a visa for tourism.

If you are from a non-exempt country (Category B or C), you must apply for an eVisa or obtain one on arrival. Check our visa checker to confirm your specific status.

The KAZA UniVisa ($50) allows you to travel between Zambia and Zimbabwe multiple times for 30 days. It also covers day trips to Botswana via the Kazungula border. It is available online or at major airports like Lusaka and Livingstone.

You will receive an eVisa approval letter as a PDF via email. Unlike some other eVisas, you must print a physical copy of this letter. Digital copies on phones are often rejected by immigration officers. If you applied through iVisa, you’ll also find a copy of your PDF in your dashboard.

If you remain in the airport transit area, you do not need a visa.

If you’re leaving the airport, you must have a visa, if you’re not on the visa-free nationality list. Zambia has a dedicated Transit eVisa category. While a standard Tourist eVisa technically allows entry, it is more expensive and requires more documentation.

Tourists are generally permitted to stay for a total of 90 days per 12-month period. Business visitors are now also permitted up to 90 days in a rolling 12-month period.

Unlike many countries, Zambia requires a cover letter for every application. It must be addressed to the "Director General of Immigration," explain your visit, and be manually signed by you.

You can extend your stay in Zambia by visiting any local Department of Immigration office in person to request an extension of your initial entry stamp.

Tourists are permitted to stay for a total of 90 days within a 12-month period, and while the first 30 days are typically granted upon entry, you can apply for two additional 30-day extensions for free. You should submit your request at least five days before your current status expires.
