How to apply for your Zambia visa with iVisa

1

Complete your online application

Answer a few simple questions to find out whether you need a Zambia eVisa or another document to visit the country. Then, upload your documents, and pay securely. You can save your progress and come back anytime. Most people finish in less than 10 minutes.

We’ll guide you through any unclear steps during the application process.

2

We review your application

The Zambian visa system is known for being confusing – your photo must be the right size, and your passport scan must be clear. Don’t worry – we review your whole application to catch anything that might cause delays.

3

We submit it for government processing

We’re not the Zambian government, but we submit your application to them and are here for you along the way if there are any problems.

4

Get your Zambia visa

We’ll email your approved Zambia visa and let you know how to use it for your trip.

  • Zambia Tourist Visa*
  • Zambia Business Visa*
  • KAZA Univisa*

Zambia eVisa

Purpose: The Zambia eVisa is an electronic visa issued to eligible foreign nationals traveling to Zambia for tourism, business, family visits, transit, or other short-term purposes.

When to apply: Travelers should apply online at least 5–7 days before departure to allow sufficient processing time.

Duration and extensions: Zambia eVisas are typically issued for stays of up to 30 or 90 days, depending on the visa type (single, double, or multiple entry). Extensions may be requested from the Department of Immigration in Zambia.

Ports of entry: Zambia eVisa holders must enter through designated ports of entry that accept eVisas, including major airports such as Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka), Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (Livingstone), Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport (Ndola), and selected land border posts.

Delivery format: Once approved, the eVisa is issued electronically and sent via email as an approval letter (PDF). Travelers must print the approval document and present it, along with their valid passport, upon arrival in Zambia.

Zambia Tourist Visa*

The Zambia Tourist Visa is intended for travelers who are not eligible for the eVisa. It’s meant for sightseeing, safaris, or visiting friends and family. Applications must be done through the Zambian embassy or consulate.

Zambia visa policy

Most foreign nationals, including those from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and most European Union member states, are eligible to obtain a Visa on Arrival or apply for a Zambia eVisa prior to travel. Other nationalities must obtain a visa in advance through a Zambian diplomatic mission.

Zambia also grants visa-free entry to nationals of select countries, primarily within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Additionally, Zambia participates in the KAZA Univisa program (in partnership with Zimbabwe), which allows eligible travelers to visit both Zambia and Zimbabwe on a single visa for tourism purposes.

General Zambia visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry
  • Travel details (such as flight itinerary and accommodation address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of stay
  • Additional supporting documents depending on the purpose of travel (such as a business invitation letter, if required)

FAQs

Processing usually takes at least 5-7 working days.

Each visit can last up to 90 days. Exact allowances depend on your visa type: single-entry visas allow one trip, while double-entry and multiple-entry visas offer greater flexibility.

A transit visa is required if you’re transiting by land and leaving the airport. Air travelers not leaving the terminal usually don’t need one.

The KAZA UniVisa lets you visit Zambia and Zimbabwe with one visa, including a one-day transit into Botswana. It’s valid for 30 days and ideal for multi-country trips.

The iVisa team reviews your application and submits it via Zambia’s portal. Once approved, we email your visa document directly to you. You can download the iVisa app to apply, track, and manage your passport and visa on the go.
