Most travelers must obtain an approved Kenya eTA before traveling to Kenya for tourism, business, or short stays. Travelers who previously qualified for visa-free entry are now generally required to obtain an eTA before departure.

Kenya also participates in the East Africa Tourist Visa program with Uganda and Rwanda. Travelers visiting multiple countries in the region may need to apply for that visa instead, depending on their itinerary and first point of entry.

General Kenya entry requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • Approved Kenya eTA prior to travel
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation in Kenya
  • Any additional supporting documents depending on nationality and purpose of travel

Most travelers now require an eTA before traveling to Kenya, even for short stays. A Transit Visa may apply in limited situations for travelers connecting onward to a third destination, particularly if leaving the airport during a layover.
