Belize Travel Declaration

Purpose: The Belize Travel Declaration (officially the Digital Immigration and Customs Declaration) is a mandatory form for all travelers entering or exiting Belize. It streamlines border processing by collecting personal, travel, and customs information electronically.

When to apply: You should complete the form online before arrival or departure. It's recommended to do so within 72 hours of travel.

Duration and extensions: The declaration itself is an entry requirement and doesn't grant a specific stay period. Most tourists are granted an initial stay of 30 days upon arrival, which can be extended for a specified amount per month at local immigration offices.

Entries: A new declaration must be submitted for every entry and every exit (embarkation and disembarkation) from the country.

Ports of entry: The digital system is active at all official points of entry, including Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE), as well as the Santa Elena (Northern) and Benque Viejo (Western) land borders.

Delivery format: Upon successful online submission, a PDF with a QR code is sent via email. Travelers must present this QR code—either on a mobile device or as a printed copy—to immigration and customs officers at the border.

This visa is for travelers from non-exempt countries visiting for vacation or leisure. It’s initially valid for 30 days. Most visitors from the US, Canada, UK, and the EU are visa-exempt for this period. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for a Visitor's Permit Extension monthly at any immigration office for a fee.

Belize visa policy

Most foreign nationals, including US, Canadian, UK, and EU citizens, don't require a visa to enter Belize for tourism for stays up to 30 days. Visa-required nationals must obtain a visa from a Belizean mission before travel. Belize doesn't offer a general Visa on Arrival service; however, travelers holding a valid multiple-entry visa or permanent residency from the US, Canada, or a Schengen country are exempt for stays up to 30 days.

General Belize visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival and at least one blank page

  • Travel details (such as onward or return flight itinerary and confirmed accommodation address)

  • Proof of sufficient financial means

  • Additional supporting documents depending on visa type (e.g., employment letter or invitation from a local sponsor)

FAQs

If you're a citizen of the United States, Canada, the UK, the European Union, or most Caribbean/Central American countries, you don't need a visa for stays up to 30 days. You'll just need a valid passport, proof of a return/onward ticket, and sufficient funds.

Yes, if you hold a valid multiple-entry visa or a permanent residency card (green card) from the United States, Canada, or a Schengen country, you're exempt from the Belize visa requirement for stays up to 30 days. You must ensure your visa/card is valid for at least 45 days beyond your arrival.

You can extend your stay monthly by visiting any local immigration department office to get a Visitor’s Permit Extension. You can generally continue the monthly extension process for up to six months, after which additional documentation or a different permit may be required.

To qualify, you must prove an annual income of at least $75,000 USD (or $100,000 USD for families) and work for a company outside Belize. The permit costs $500 BZD per adult and $200 BZD per child, is valid for 180 days, and allows for multiple entries.
