Learn More: Tourist Visa

Cameroon is switching to a digital future, and their new e-Visa program is just the beginning. Here's everything we know about the Cameroon eVisa that was recently announced.

Cameroon plans to have a completely digital economy by 2035, and they've started the change by introducing an online Cameroon visa application. The Cameroon visa application is reportedly set to launch by the end of 2022.

According to administrative or immigration authorities, the redesigned system intends to make the application process for the Cameroon visa easier for foreign visitors. Here's everything you'll need to know about the system when it launches.

Unfortunately, we currently do not offer help with Cameroon travel documents. However, you can use our visa checker tool to see where to apply or if we've launched new products related to the upcoming application system.

Why is Cameroon switching to an eVisa?

Electronic visas are becoming increasingly popular globally. Cameroon is the latest country to announce its shift to a digitized system. The digital visa systems are designed to improve border security and make travel quicker for passengers.

By the end of the year, many travelers applying for a Cameroon visa can apply for their Cameroon visa without going to a Cameroon embassy or consulate. Instead, visitors will simply fill in a short digital form online and provide the requested documents the same way.

Thus, the electronic visa application form will make travelers' lives easier since most online visa platforms process applications much faster than embassies.

Who is creating the eVisa for Cameroon?

In April 2022, the Cameroonian government signed a deal with the Ivorian security and biometric solutions provider, Impact Palmarès R&D SAS, to design and create Cameroon's e-Visa application form platform and build a single secure system for all of Cameroon's consular services.

Cameroon visa application requirements

According to the official government sites, the e-Visa application is only accepted if the following required documents are provided:

  • A valid original passport with an expiry date of at least six months.

  • Complete the electronic visa application form

  • Proof of flight booking for a return flight or a flight back home

  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination and any other vaccines required by the health authority in the form of an international vaccination certificate.

  • Hotel booking confirmation or proof of accommodation in Cameroon.

  • Passport type photograph/s

Please note, visa issuance does not guarantee entry into Cameroon, and you may be questioned by authorities before. You may need to provide proof of:

  • Your ability to support yourself and any dependents during the visit, i.e., you have sufficient funds.

  • Passport validity for a period longer than the validity of the visa. If your passport validity is in doubt, you may be denied entry to Cameroon.

  • Proof of your visa validity

  • A valid confirmed onward ticket to leave Cameroon.

Types of Cameroon visas

There are multiple different visa types available for entry into Cameroon. Each for a different purpose. Here are the currently available options:

  1. Diplomatic and courtesy visa: Free

  2. Long stay visa (multiple entries for business, study, or family purposes)

  3. Tourism or temporary visit visa

  4. Transit visa

The cost will depend on the type of visa you are applying for. Contact your local Cameroon embassy or consulate for queries about the cost of their e-visa services.

Cameroon visa validity

A single entry visa for Cameroon will expire if not used within three months from the date of issuance. However, the period permitted to stay in Cameroon depends on what the Cameroon Immigration Service endorses at the point of entry into Cameroon.

Visas are generally issued for stays of 3 months. However, they may be extended by applicants to the Cameroon Immigration Service before expiration. Multiple-entry visas tend to be given for six months, and the applicant gets unlimited entries in that period into Cameroon.

Who needs a Cameroon visa?

The Republic of Cameroon requires all visitors to apply for a visa. Only six countries enjoy visa-exempt entry into Cameroon. They are:

  1. The Central African Republic

  2. Chad

  3. the Republic of Congo

  4. Equatorial Guinea

  5. Gabon

  6. Nigeria

Travelers from these countries may enter the destination country without a visa for up to 90 days. Only those carrying diplomatic and service passports are eligible for visas on arrival.

We regret to inform you that, at this moment, iVisa does not handle Cameroon visa applications. However, this may change once the electronic visa program is launched.
