Visa types needed for Cayman Islands

UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

The UK ETA is designed for travelers visiting the United Kingdom for short stays. With this travel authorization, you can enter the UK for several purposes, including tourism and business.

The ETA is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. You can enter and leave the UK multiple times during this period, as long as each visit stays within the six-month limit.

UK Standard Visitor Visa

  • 💳 Proof of financial means: Such as bank statements or sponsor documentation
  • ✈️ Travel plans: Including accommodation details and return flight bookings
  • 📄 Supporting documents: That demonstrate the purpose of your visit
  • 🏢 Employment or education records: Showing ties to your home country
  • ✋ Biometrics appointment: Scheduled as part of the application process

Cayman Islands Visa*

If your nationality does require a visa for the Cayman Islands, you must apply online before travel through Cayman Islands Customs & Border Control.

You can apply up to 3 months before your trip.

Typical documents include: passport bio page, a photo, travel dates and flight info, proof of accommodation, return/onward ticket, and proof of funds; you upload these during the online form.

After submission, you wait for a decision, and if approved you travel with the visa confirmation. If you want to stay longer once there, you can apply online for a visitor extension before your permitted time runs out.

Cayman Islands visa policy

Most visitors to the Cayman Islands don’t need a visa for short tourism trips, such as passport holders from the UK, USA, Canada, the EU, Australia, New Zealand, and many Commonwealth countries. You still need a valid passport (valid beyond your return date), a return/onward ticket, and you may be asked to show where you’re staying and that you have enough money for your visit.

The border officer decides your allowed stay on arrival (often around 30 days, with possible extensions if you apply before it expires). Working is not allowed on a tourist entry.

If your nationality does require a visa, you must apply online before travel through Cayman Islands Customs & Border Control. You can apply up to 3 months before your trip. You can apply online for a visitor extension before your permitted time runs out.

A maximum visa-free stay of 30 days is granted to permanent residents of the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada, when arriving directly from that country. Nationals of China, India and Jamaica who hold a valid visa issued by the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom can also visit the Cayman Islands for up to 30 days if arriving directly from the country that issued the visa.

FAQs

Many travelers don’t need a visa for short tourist visits. People from the UK, USA, Canada, most EU countries, Australia, New Zealand, and many Commonwealth nations are usually visa-free.

No. Tourist entry is for visiting only. Any paid work requires the correct work permit or visa. Separate rules may apply to yachting- or cruise ship crew, but it's important to double-check this with your employer or Cayman authorities before you go.

Usually no special vaccines are required for entry. A yellow-fever certificate may be needed only if you’re arriving from certain countries where yellow fever is present.

You may need to complete an immigration/customs form (often given during your flight). Keep any entry slip or stamp details safe, as you may need them during your stay or when you leave.
