One of these other reasons is for volunteering. If you are entering Malawi to volunteer there, you will need to obtain a visa. Luckily, those who are traveling to Malawi for volunteering purposes can enter the country by applying for an e-visa. Your Malawi e-visa will grant you a Multiple Entry access to the country so that you can fulfill your volunteer duties there.

What Is an e-Visa?

An e-visa is a digital visa that is accepted by Malawi as an official travel document for volunteers, tourists, and more. This visa eliminates the need for paper documents; however, it is recommended that you carry a paper copy of your e-visa with you when you travel to Malawi, in case of technology failures.

When Will My Malawi e-Visa Expire?

  • Malawi e-visas expires 90 days after issued.

If you are in possession of an expired Malawi visa, you will need to apply for a new one. Expired visas are considered invalid and will not be accepted at any port of entry.

How Long Does the e-Visa Allow Visitors to Stay in Malawi?

  • The e-visa for Malawi allows a stay of 90 days Per Entry.

If you stay past the max stay limit, you risk being fined, deported, or arrested. If you wish to extend your stay, you will need to submit an application with the immigration department of Malawi.

At What Rate are e-Visas Processed? What Is the Price of an e-Visa?

When you complete your e-visa application, you will be given three separate options that will determine how quickly your application will be processed. Whichever processing speed you choose will determine how much you pay. The prices listed below for each processing speed include the price of the visa and the price of any processing speeds.

  • Standard Processing: Application is processed in 10 days and costs USD $109.99.
  • Rush Processing: Application is processed in 9 days and costs USD $147.99.
  • Super Rush Processing: Application is processed in 7 days and costs USD $200.99.

Can I Use My e-Visa for Multiple Entry?

Your Malawi e-visa allows a Multiple Entry access to the country of Malawi.

What Do I Need to Submit With My e-Visa Application?

You will need to submit the following documents with your Malawi e-visa application:

  • Photo
  • Copy of your passport details page
  • Evidence of accommodation during your stay in Malawi

If the application is for a minor, you will also need:

  • The minor's birth certificate
  • The minor's legal guardian's passport page
  • Consent letter

Please note that these documents must be scanned for them to be considered valid. Your application will be rejected if you fail to scan the documents.

Does Having an e-Visa Guarantee Entry into Malawi?

No. You can still be refused entry even though you hold a valid e-visa. Malawi reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone at their own discretion. Typically, this is done only in extreme circumstances.
