Tips for doing business in Morocco as a Thai business traveler

When doing business in Morocco, it's important to be aware of cultural differences and customs to ensure successful interactions. Here are some tips for doing business in Morocco and a comparison of cultural differences between Thailand and this African country:

  • Relationship building: Like in Thailand, personal relationships are crucial in Moroccan business culture. Take the time to establish trust and build rapport before discussing business matters. Engage in small talk, show interest in Moroccan culture, and be patient with the relationship-building process.

  • Formality and etiquette: Moroccan business culture tends to be more formal compared to Thailand. Dress conservatively and professionally, especially for initial meetings. Address individuals using their appropriate titles, and maintain a polite and respectful demeanor at all times.

  • Greetings and introductions: In Morocco, a handshake is the common greeting. It is customary to greet the most senior person first. Use appropriate greetings such as "As-salamu alaykum" (Peace be upon you) or "Bonjour" (Hello) based on the context.

  • Time and punctuality: While punctuality is generally expected in business meetings, it is common for Moroccans to have a more relaxed attitude towards time. Meetings may start late or be subject to rescheduling. Maintain flexibility and avoid rushing the process.

  • Hierarchy: Moroccan business culture has a hierarchical structure. Decisions are often made at the top level, and it's important to engage with senior-level executives. Pay respect to authority figures and follow the established chain of command.

  • Business meals: Inviting Moroccan business partners to a meal is an effective way to build relationships. Meals are typically relaxed and social, emphasizing enjoying the food and company. Accepting tea is seen as a sign of respect.

  • Gift giving: In Morocco, giving gifts can help foster business relationships. Consider offering a thoughtful gift that aligns with Moroccan culture or the recipient's interests. However, it's advisable to avoid overly expensive or extravagant gifts.

While there are cultural differences between Thailand and Morocco, such as communication style and level of formality, both countries emphasize building relationships and mutual respect in business dealings.

By adapting to Moroccan cultural norms, showing appreciation for their customs, and being patient, you can navigate the business landscape effectively.

Differences between the Morocco Business Visa and the Morocco Tourist Visa

The Morocco Business Visa and the Morocco Tourist Visa are two different visa types issued by the government for distinct purposes. Here are the main differences between the two travel documents:

  • Morocco Business eVisa: The Morocco Business Visa is specifically intended for Thai citizens traveling to Morocco for business activities.

Applicants for this visa must provide specific documents related to their travel purposes, such as an invitation letter from a Moroccan company, proof of employment, business contracts, or conference/event registration details.

  • Morocco Tourist Visa: The Morocco Visit Visa is designed for individuals traveling to Morocco for tourism purposes, such as sightseeing, exploring the country's cultural heritage, visiting historical sites, or enjoying recreational activities.

Supporting documents for a Tourist Visa typically include proof of hotel reservations or an invitation letter from a Moroccan host, a detailed travel itinerary, and proof of financial means to cover your daily expenses.

Additionally, there are different fees, validities, and conditions for each of these visas. For both applications, you can count on our services to guide you from start to finish! You’ll also need a copy of your current passport to apply, whether you’re applying for business or tourism.
