The airline urges travelers to arrive early as EU biometric checks cause long delays at passport control

EasyJet has warned passengers that it "may not be able to wait" for those delayed by new EU border checks, as airports across Europe face significantly longer waiting times at passport control.
According to an update on the EasyJet website, the airline told customers, "The airline may not be able to wait for delayed passengers, even if the wait is longer than usual. We strongly recommend arriving at the airport with plenty of time to spare."
The warning comes as UK passengers have been told to expect waiting times of four hours or more this summer due to the European Entry/Exit System (EES).
What is causing the delays
Under the EES, third-country nationals are required to provide biometric data, including a photo and fingerprint scan, when they arrive at passport control. A digital record is then generated for the passenger, replacing traditional passport stamping. The record lasts for three years and monitors how long travelers stay within the EU.
The system was gradually rolled out from October last year and was fully launched in April this year. However, it has already resulted in long delays at EU borders, with some passengers missing their flights after being held up at passport control.
Passengers already missing flights
Last month, around 100 people traveling to Manchester Airport from Milan missed their EasyJet flight as a result of EES queues.
EasyJet's advice to passengers
In its update, EasyJet told passengers, "Airports across Europe may experience longer waiting times at passport control due to the new European Entry/Exit System (EES). This could mean you need to have your biometrics taken at border checks, including the scanning of facial images and fingerprints."
With extended waiting times expected across many European airports over the coming months, EasyJet has urged holidaymakers to plan ahead for their journeys, including arriving in time for Bag Drop and allowing extra time at the airport.
