Frequently Asked Questions

There are few places in South America that are as visually blessed as the country of Peru. Not only does the nation have some of the most beautiful places and tourist spots in the world, but it also has some of the most fascinating cultural experiences a visitor could ever have. Make sure that you get everything ready for your trip to Peru by getting your Health Declaration, visas, and other necessary paperwork. All right, then. Let me tell you the specifics about the things that make Peru one of the best places to go on your vacation. Peru is mainly engaging in what is called cultural tourism. It is, essentially, the largest sector in the country’s tourism industry. There is a lot of evidence remaining of civilizations that existed in the Pre-Columbian era. The most notable of these are the Chavin, Moche, Nasca, and the Inca. The archaeological impact alone is enough for cultural tourism to bloom in the country. One of the more captivating ones is left by the Nasca. It is called the Nazca Lines (or Nasca Lines), located in Southern Peru, and covers an area of more than 1000 square kilometers. The lines define more than 300 giant shapes or geoglyphs, with The Condor, The Hummingbird, The Tree, The Monkey, and the Spider some of the most famous among them. These shapes are difficult to see when the viewer is on the same level as them but they can be seen from atop nearby hills and mountains, or when the viewer is on an airplane. Have a look at the amazing Nazca lines by getting a Medical Declaration and going to Peru. Another of the more recognizable archaeological spots in the country is the ruins of the ancient city Macchu Picchu. It is located in Southern Peru in the Eastern Cordillera. It is believed to be completed in the 15th century and it serves as a citadel and a home for one of the Inca emperors. It is not only the pre-Columbian civilizations that attract visitors to Peru. There are a lot of colonial architectural wonders that are still evident even in modern Peru, with the most remarkable in the cities of Cusco, Arequipa, and Lima. Some of them were built more than 500 years ago, and they show the creativity and skill of the Spanish colonists during their occupation of Peru. These architectural designs have survived the test of time and the buildings are still standing and being shown to those who visit Peru, although many of them have been restored from a crumbling state. There are also several museums showcasing the amalgamated nature of the culture and history of Peru, many of them located in the historic city of Lima. Some of the most acclaimed ones include the Rafael Larco Herrera Archeological Museum, Museum of Italian Art, National Museum of Peruvian Culture, National Museum of Anthropology, Archeology, and History, and the National Museum. Outside Lima, there are other museums like the Regional Museum of the National University of San Martin located in the town of Tarapoto, San Martin. Witness the diverse history and culture of Peru. Three-quarters of the Peruvian land area is dominated by the Amazon rainforest. Also, 60% of all land in the country is located within the Amazon Basin. This means that most of the land in the country is protected as national parks and environmental reserves, with a higher percentage than any nation on Earth. The part of the Amazon rainforest that is located inside Peru, called the Peruvian Amazon, is among the most untouched areas in the world, with pristine rivers and tributaries, and virgin forests. The ephemeral beauty of the region makes it one of the most popular destinations for tourists and visitors who are interested in the ecology of the rainforest and in communing with nature. Even with all that, a million hectares of the same rainforest have been reduced to stumps and burned remnants over a period of 15 years. The main causes for the collapse of this section of the rainforest are deforestation, agriculture (including cultivation of the cocoa plant, and important economic resource), conversion of the land for livestock pasture, mining for gold, degradation of the soil, and construction of roads. The Amazon rainforest, divided into the Lower Jungle and the High Jungle, has a high biodiversity index, containing a great number of species, some that can be found nowhere else in the world. There are large nature preserves in the rainforest, some of the more frequently visited include Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Tambopata-Candamo Protected Area, Rio Abiseo National Park, and Manú National Park. The heart of Peru is located in the mountain range known as the Andes, boasting some of the most amazing and beautiful spots in the country. It is home to a number of tall waterfalls. It is also where the Huascarán, the fourth highest peak in the Americas and highest in Peru, is located. This is also where the Huascarán National Park is located, one of the World Heritage Sites and it has been since 1985. Be mesmerized by the exquisite beauty and magnificent splendor of Peru. Visit now with your Travel Health Card. The peculiar and wonderful land of the country also makes it possible for visitors to enjoy adventure tourism. They can backpack through scenic lakes, rivers, and hillsides; kayak through rapids; and even take a 4x4 ride through the jungle and mountains. Beaches are also great attractions and visitors come to the Punta Sal and Máncora beach areas. Some also go to summertime beaches in Asia in Lima. And what is a vacation without sampling the local cuisine? Gastronomic tourism is popular with visitors trying out the different dishes in Peruvian cuisine, with its origins in Spanish cuisine and infused with delicious Peruvian ingredients and spices. Because of the shortage of the original ingredients in Spanish dishes, Peruvian dishes have had to be heavily adapted and a lot of ingredients have been replaced with local ones.
