The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, is located in Southeast Asia. It is a superb region with plenty of things to keep you busy during your vacation. The most obvious thing you can do in Timor-Leste is to enjoy plenty of beaches. Find the perfect one and just lay in the white sand and swim in the clear blue waters. Scuba diving is also available in multiple locations and the marine life is spectacular. Another thing that we recommend you do in Timor-Leste is trekking near Mount Ramelau. Its highest peak exceeds 3000 meters, but the scenery is simply amazing.
Having a trip to Timor-Leste may involve getting a visa. You need to check the country's visa policy. What we can tell you is that the citizens of the European Union, as well as Cape Verde, can enter Timor-Leste and stay for up to 90 days. In fact, the citizens of EU countries can stay for 90 days, while the ones from Cape Verde are allowed only 30 days. Visas on arrival are also available, but there is more than one type of visa on arrival. One is available at any point of entry, and it is available only for eligible nationalities; the second is available for everyone else, but it can be obtained only at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport and/or at Dili Seaport. It grants a 30-day stay.
What you should know is that people can apply for a visa prior to arrival. They can either submit their application online or at one of the diplomatic missions of East Timor.
To learn where you stand on the visa requirements, you can read Timor-Leste’s visa policy, or you can use iVisa’s Visa Checker. It is a simple tool that tells you what you need to know in just a few clicks. First, you need to access the feature by clicking on the Visa Checker in the top right corner of this page. Then, you must select your country of origin from the drag-down menu on the left and add Timor-Leste in the box on the right. The result will tell you if you need a Timor-Leste visa. If you do, you will be provided a list of the nearest embassies, should you want to apply before arrival.
The next thing you need to do is research the requirements you need to meet. You have the option of doing that online, but we advise caution because the information you find online is not always the most reliable. As an alternative, we advise you to call the diplomatic mission and ask about the requirements. It is the most legitimate source of information. In the meantime, what we can tell you is that all applicants must have: a valid passport that does not expire for at least another 6 months from the date of arrival, proof of financial subsistence, and a hotel booking confirmation.
We are sorry that we cannot help you get your visa for East Timor. We hope that you have a smooth application process and that you find the information above useful.
