Uganda visa policy

Most foreign nationals must obtain a visa before traveling to Uganda for tourism, business, or transit. Travelers can apply online for an approved eVisa before departure. Citizens of certain countries may be visa-exempt, while others must secure approval in advance. U.S. citizens are required to obtain a visa prior to travel.

Uganda offers different short-term visa options depending on the purpose of travel, including a Tourist eVisa and the East Africa Visa for those visiting multiple countries in the region. Travelers must ensure they apply for the correct visa type based on their itinerary and entry point.

General Uganda visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
  • Recent passport-size photo
  • Travel itinerary, including return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation in Uganda
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • Any additional supporting documents depending on the visa type
