Visa types needed for Bermuda

  • Bermuda Arrival Card
  • UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
  • UK Standard Visitor Visa

Bermuda Arrival Card

The Bermuda Arrival Card is mandatory for all air and private yacht travelers. This digital form must be completed online at least 24 hours before travel. It collects personal, contact, and travel details, including next destination and accommodation in Bermuda.

Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email and QR code, which must be shown to immigration officers upon arrival. Cruise passengers may receive and complete a physical Arrival Card onboard instead.

You’ll need:

🛂 Valid passport: Valid for at least 6 months

🤳 A passport style photo: We’ll guide you through the process of taking a suitable photo

📧 Travel itinerary and arrival/departure dates: To show when you’ll be visiting the country

💵 Proof of full Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) payment: We’ll help you through the process of paying this as it’s separate to the visa (about US$ 100/day per adult)

UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

Purpose: The UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is a mandatory digital travel authorization for visa-exempt nationals traveling to the United Kingdom for tourism, business meetings, short-term study, or transit.

When to apply: It’s recommended to apply at least a few days before your travel date. Most travelers receive a decision quickly, but applying in advance is advised.

Duration and extensions: The UK ETA is not extendable. If the validity period lapses or if you change passports, you will need to apply for a new UK ETA

Entries: Multiple entries, as long as the ETA and the passport it’s linked to remain valid.

Ports of entry: Any official United Kingdom port of entry.

Delivery format: An approved ETA is electronically linked to your passport and exists only as a digital record, without any physical document, sticker, stamp, or visa vignette.

UK Standard Visitor Visa

Purpose: The UK Standard Visitor Visa allows eligible travelers to visit the United Kingdom for tourism, business meetings, short courses, or family visits. A valid multiple-entry UK visa that has already been used to enter the UK may also allow entry to the British Virgin Islands for short stays.

When to apply: It’s recommended to apply at least 4 to 6 weeks before your planned travel date.

Duration and extensions: The visa is typically valid for 6 months, 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years, depending on what is granted. Each visit is generally limited to up to 6 months.

Entries: Issued as a multiple-entry visa.

Ports of entry: Any official United Kingdom port of entry.

Delivery format: This is a physical visa vignette placed in your passport. Applicants must attend a biometric appointment as part of the process.

Bermuda visa policy

Bermuda does not issue its own entry visas. Instead, it requires visitors to either be visa-exempt or hold a valid multiple-entry visa for the United Kingdom, United States, or Canada. These must remain valid for at least 45 days beyond the traveler’s intended departure from Bermuda.

If you’re from a visa-exempt country, you can typically enter Bermuda for stays of up to 180 days without needing additional visas.

In all cases, the visa must allow re-entry to the issuing country, it must be physically printed in your passport unless otherwise specified (e.g., eVisa), and it must be valid beyond your departure date from Bermuda by at least 45 days. If visa-exempt, you don't need an Electronic Travel Authorization (like the UK ETA, U.S. ESTA or Canadian eTA).

All travelers, regardless of nationality, must also complete the Bermuda Arrival Card, a mandatory online pre-arrival form that confirms basic travel and health information. A QR confirmation code is issued, which must be presented on arrival. Cruise passengers may complete a paper version.

FAQs

Bermuda does not issue its own visas. Instead, if you're not from a visa-exempt country, you’ll need to present a valid, multiple-entry visa for the United Kingdom, United States, or Canada, valid for at least 45 days beyond your planned Bermuda departure. If you don’t meet these conditions, you won’t be allowed entry.

The maximum stay for visitors is 180 days per calendar year. However, immigration officers may issue a shorter stay depending on your accommodation booking, return flight, or purpose of travel.

If you’re unclear, you can contact us on WhatsApp – we're available 24/7.

You should complete your Bermuda Arrival Card at least 24–72 hours before travel.

If you require a UK, US, or Canada visa, apply at least two months in advance, as processing times can vary by country and visa type.

You don't require a UK ETA as a visa-exempt traveler. However, you must still complete the Bermuda Arrival Card.

Yes. If you’re not visa-exempt, you can use a valid U.S. or Canadian multiple-entry visa (such as a B1/B2, F1 with valid I-20, or Canadian visitor visa) to enter Bermuda. The visa must be valid for at least 45 days beyond your intended departure date.

Electronic travel authorizations (U.S. ESTA or Canadian eTA) are not required if you're already visa-exempt for Bermuda.

Overstaying can result in serious consequences, including:

  • Fines
  • Immediate deportation
  • A ban on future re-entry

If you need to stay longer due to unforeseen circumstances, you must contact the Bermuda Department of Immigration before your authorized stay expires.
