French visa policy for Emiratis citizens

Emirati citizens do not currently need a visa to visit France for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business. However, once the new travel authorization system is operational, Emirati travelers will need to obtain an ETIAS authorization before entering France or any other Schengen Area country. The system is currently expected to be fully implemented by the end of 2026.

Emiratis will need one French entry document:

  • ETIAS for France: A mandatory online travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen Area. Once implemented, it will allow Emirati citizens to enter France for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit.

General France entry requirements for Emirati travelers are:

  • UAE passport valid for at least six months
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
  • Travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical and repatriation costs
  • Travel itinerary or purpose of visit
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Frequently asked questions about getting the France visa with a United Arab Emirates passport

Emirati citizens do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) in France for tourism or business. However, starting in late 2026, travelers will be required to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before arrival. You must hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date.

The ETIAS system has not launched yet, so official processing times have not been confirmed. Most applications are expected to be processed quickly once the system becomes operational. With iVisa, you can apply for the ETIAS for France online and receive expert guidance throughout the process.

Emirati nationals can stay in France for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. This limit is calculated on a rolling basis and applies across the entire Schengen Area. For stays exceeding 90 days, such as for employment, long-term study, or residence, you must apply for a national long-stay visa before your departure.

Emirati citizens do not need a visa to transit through France if they remain in the international zone. However, if you leave this area (e.g., to change airports), visa-free entry rules apply. Starting in late 2026, ETIAS authorization will be required for all transit, including airport layovers.

Emirati nationals can only extend their stay in France under exceptional and unforeseen circumstances, such as a serious medical emergency or force majeure. You must apply at the local prefecture before your 90 days expire. Extensions for personal or tourist reasons are not permitted.
