Vietnam eVisa requirements
The Vietnam eVisa, also called a Vietnam visitor visa or entry visa, is the standard online visa for most foreign visitors, including travelers from the United States, Canada, Australia, and other nationalities that are not on Vietnam’s visa-exempt list. It covers tourism, business, and transit, allows single or multiple entry, and is valid for stays of up to 90 days.
Citizens of visa-exempt countries, such as the UK, Japan, and most ASEAN nations, do not need an eVisa for short visits. However, they can still apply for one if they want to stay longer than their visa-free allowance or need multiple entries. Travelers who prefer a traditional paper visa, or who are not eligible for an eVisa, can apply through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate instead.
The Vietnam Digital Arrival Card is a separate requirement. Even if you are visa-exempt or already have an approved eVisa, you must complete it within 72 hours before arrival if you are flying into Vietnam.

Vietnam eVisa — 90 dayseVisa
From$114.99
- Who it's for
- Eligible nationals traveling to Vietnam who are not covered by a visa exemption. Every traveler needs their own eVisa on their own passport, and a child cannot be added to a parent's.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism, business, visiting relatives, study and attending events all run on the same eVisa, so there is no separate business version. Paid employment is not permitted.
- How you travel
- Vietnam approves this eVisa for a published list of air, land and sea checkpoints. Your eVisa is tied to the entry checkpoint you declare on the form, and one presented at a crossing that is not on the list will not be accepted.
- Delivery format
- A PDF you print and present at the border with your passport. Your portrait photo must be a separate image from your passport scan, since a reused or edited picture is the most common reason an application fails.
- Good to know
- You must be outside Vietnam when you apply, and the eVisa cannot be extended or amended once submitted. Airside transit does not need one, but you do the moment you clear immigration, including for an overnight layover outside the airport. Naming a Vietnamese sponsor or host adds a verification step.

Vietnam visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the Vietnam eVisa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Do I need a visa for Vietnam?
If your nationality is on Vietnam's visa-free list, you can enter without a visa for a limited stay (typically 45 days for most European and Asian countries as of 2026). However, if you plan to stay longer or need multiple entries, you must apply for the 90-day eVisa. Many travelers from visa-exempt countries still choose to apply for the eVisa to enjoy the full 90-day duration without needing to do a 'visa run.'
Is iVisa the official Vietnam eVisa website?
No. iVisa is an independent travel document service, not the Vietnamese government or the National Electronic Visa Portal, which is run directly by Vietnam's immigration authorities.
You can always apply through the official government portal yourself. However, iVisa offers added support, including human review of your application to help catch errors before submission, and files it through the correct government channel on your behalf. The service fee covers this guided review and support.
How will I receive the Vietnam eVisa?
You will receive your approved eVisa via email in PDF format. You must print at least one physical copy to carry with you. While digital systems are improving, immigration officers at most checkpoints still require the printed document to process your entry stamp.
Can I enter Vietnam at any border with an eVisa?
Yes. Under the 2026 regulations, the port-of-entry field has been removed from the visa document. This means you are no longer restricted to the specific airport or land border you selected during your application. You can enter and exit through any of the 83 approved international gates, giving you complete flexibility if your travel plans change.
How long can I stay in Vietnam with an eVisa?
The Vietnam eVisa is valid for a maximum stay of 90 days. You can select either a single-entry or a multiple-entry version during your application, depending on whether you plan to visit neighboring countries like Cambodia or Laos and return to Vietnam.
What is the processing time of the Vietnam eVisa?
The government typically takes 3 to 10 business days. However, delays are common during Vietnamese public holidays (like Tet). With iVisa, you can get your Vietnam eVisa in as fast as 4 days.
Can I extend my eVisa while I am in Vietnam?
Currently, Vietnam does not allow for the direct extension of an eVisa while you are inside the country. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, the most common method is a 'visa run': leaving the country briefly and re-entering with a new 90-day eVisa.
Do children/minors need a Vietnam eVisa?
Yes. Every traveler, regardless of age, must have their own individual eVisa. Parents or guardians can complete the application for minors. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or authorized guardian during travel.
Do I need the Vietnam eVisa for transit?
If you remain in the international transit area and do not clear immigration, you do not need an eVisa. However, if you have a long layover and want to stay in a hotel outside the airport, or if you need to clear customs to collect and re-check bags for a self-transfer flight, you must have a valid eVisa or be from a visa-exempt country.
What are the most common reasons for denial?
The most frequent rejection reasons are low-quality passport scans or photos where the traveler is wearing glasses or the background isn't pure white. Additionally, typos in the passport number or name (which must exactly match the machine-readable zone) are common pitfalls. iVisa's expert review is designed to catch these errors before they reach immigration authorities.
