How long can a Filipino citizen stay in Vietnam without a visa?
Under ASEAN reciprocal agreements, Filipino passport holders enjoy a visa exemption for stays of up to 21 days (including the day of entry). If your total itinerary is 21 days or less, you don't need to apply for any visa prior to your departure.
What do I do if my trip to Vietnam will exceed 21 days?
If you plan to stay for 22 days or longer, you must apply for a Vietnam eVisa before traveling. The eVisa is valid for up to 90 days and can be issued for either single or multiple entries, depending on your selection during the application process.
Can I extend my 21-day visa-free entry while inside the country?
No. In-country extensions for the tourist visa exemption are generally unavailable or difficult to secure locally. If there’s any chance your stay will exceed 21 days, you should apply for the 90-day e-Visa online before leaving the Philippines to avoid heavy overstay fines.
Is a visa on arrival still an option for Philippine passport holders?
The traditional Visa on Arrival (VoA) system has been largely phased out for independent travelers. The official online eVisa has replaced it as the standard, safest, and most convenient digital method to secure an extended entry permit before landing.
Can I convert my tourist status into a work visa without leaving Vietnam?
No. You cannot convert a 21-day visa exemption or a tourist e-Visa into an employment or resident visa from within Vietnam. If you find a job, you must exit the country, and your Vietnamese employer must sponsor a formal work visa so you can re-enter legally under the correct employment classification.
