Frequently asked questions about the Taiwan Travel Authorization

It depends on your nationality and if you already hold a qualifying visa.

  • Visa-free: Citizens of the US, UK, EU, and (until July 31, 2026) the Philippines, Thailand, and Brunei can enter visa-free for 14–90 days.

  • TAC (conditional visa-free): Citizens of India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar can apply for this Travel Authorization Certificate if they hold a valid visa or resident card from a "qualifying" country (US, Canada, Schengen, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, or South Korea).

  • eVisa/Visitor Visa: If you do not meet the criteria for either of the above, you must apply for a standard Visitor Visa or eVisa.

Even with a Travel Authorization Certificate, all foreign visitors must complete the Taiwan Online Arrival Card (TWAC) before passing through immigration. Starting October 2025, this digital card has officially replaced paper arrival forms. It is recommended to fill this out within 3 days of your arrival. With iVisa, you can easily apply for both documents in one go.

Yes. The Travel Authorization Certificate is a multiple-entry permit valid for 90 days. However, you can only stay for a maximum of 30 days per visit. Additionally, you are generally limited to entering Taiwan with a TAC a maximum of 6 times per calendar year.

The certificate is sent directly to your email as a PDF attachment.

Unlike the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), which is digital and linked to your passport, the Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC) MUST be printed. You must also carry the physical qualifying document (e.g., your valid US visa or Japanese resident card) that you used for the application. If you show a digital version only or the certificate without the supporting visa, you will be denied entry.

You must hold a resident card or entry visa (including eVisas) issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, any EU/Schengen country, the United Kingdom, or the United States.

  • The document must be currently valid or have expired less than 10 years ago.
  • It must not be a work permit or a "Void/Cancelled" visa. Note: Simple travel authorizations (like an Australian ETA or US ESTA) are typically not sufficient.

The Travel Authorization allows for a maximum stay of 30 days per visit. The certificate itself remains valid for 90 days from the date of issue.

No. The 30-day stay granted by the Travel Authorization Certificate cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a formal Visitor Visa at a Taiwan overseas mission before you travel.

The official government processing time is typically quick. With iVisa, you can get the Travel Authorization almost instantly after our experts have reviewed your documents.

Yes, every traveler, regardless of age, must have their own individual Travel Authorization. iVisa makes it easy to apply for the whole family in one go by using the "Add another person" feature during the application.

If your TAC application is denied online, it is usually because the system cannot verify your qualifying visa or because of a typo. If you are ineligible for the TAC, you will need to apply for a standard Taiwan Visitor Visa or an eVisa.

iVisa's expert review catches errors so that your information is correct the first time. We also offer optional denial protection.
