What is an Australia ETA?

The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (subclass 601) is an electronic authorization that allows eligible travelers to visit Australia for tourism and business-related activities. This visa is suitable for business visits such as attending meetings, negotiating contracts, or participating in conferences.

However, keep in mind that although you can travel for your existing work using this travel document, the Australia Business ETA does not allow you to do extra paid work in Australia or receive payment for any work you do there.

The Australia ETA is valid for up to 1 year from the date of approval. During this time, it allows multiple entries with each stay limited to 90 days. This flexibility makes it a convenient option for short-term business trips.

What you need to apply for an Australia ETA

To apply, you’ll need the following documents:

• A valid passport

• A digital passport photo that meets Australia visa photo specifications

Travelers with criminal convictions involving a sentence of 12 months or more (served or suspended) will not meet the character requirements for an ETA. In this case, you should apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) instead, which allows a more detailed assessment of the traveler.
