Digital nomads usually look for destinations where they can slow down the rhythm, enjoy beautiful places, and have a reliable internet connection to work. Costa Rica can offer all that and an easy digital nomad visa to apply for online.
The country has high degrees of connectivity, shared workspaces, and even entire residential communities of remote workers. You can live this experience by following some steps of the application process and meeting a few requirements.
In this article, you will learn about the legal stay documents for digital nomad visas (DNV), the requirements of the Foreign Nationals Administration, and everything you need to work remotely from Costa Rica.
What is the Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa (DNV)?
The remote work advantage is that you can take personal computer equipment and work from anywhere with average internet speed. This allows digital nomads to live in different countries, learn another culture and try a lifestyle change. Costa Rica is one of the options to live this fantastic experience: the government developed a special visa for remote workers, business owners, and freelancers who want to stay in a foreign country longer than a tourist visa.
The Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa allows a long stay if you can prove you work for a foreign company, own a business, or work as a freelancer with clients from other companies. It's essential to have a steady income to prove you have enough funds for your stay. Be aware that this is not a Costa Rica Work Visa, so you cannot work in a Costa Rican company during your stay.
The Costa Rican government created this visa to boost tourism and take advantage of the remote work trend. The foreign national is exempt from income tax with this visa and can enjoy all Costa Rica offers like a tourist but stay a year in the country. Digital nomads can move to Costa Rica with a family member since they submit all required documents to prove their relationship.
