The Dominican Republic is the second-largest country in the Caribbean, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. With direct flights from the most important cities in the United States, Europe, Canada, and Latin America, this country is an ideal destination to enjoy a beach and tropical environment. The Dominican Republic stands out for the warmth of its climate and the friendliness of its people. It’s a destination that has an extraordinary nature, an impressive history, and great cultural wealth. It limits with the Atlantic Ocean to the North and the Caribbean Sea to the South. It has more than 1,600 km of coastline and 400 km from the best beaches in the world. It also has luxurious hotels, comfortable resorts, and endless options in sports, entertainment, and recreation. This country is also very popular for being the founder of "merengue", so be sure that you’ll enjoy a good dance when you enter its discos. But if you prefer to relax, then don't worry, you can also renew yourself in its hotels and give yourself a break in its magnificent natural parks, mountain ranges, rivers, and beaches. You can start your experience in Los Haitises National Park, which you find in the northeast of the country, in Samaná Bay, one of the most beautiful in the country. In this place, you can lose yourself in dense exotic vegetation and enjoy warm waters. As for its name, it means "high land" or land of mountains (hatises), since it has a set of hills with heights between 30 and 40 meters. Keep in mind that in La Bahía de Samaná you can find small mangrove cays, seagrass beds, and corals for humpback whales, turtles, and manatees. That’s why here you can take a special tour to get to know the marine life or practice scuba diving. You can also take a tour in Altos de Chavón, an ancient Mediterranean-style villa that is built on the Chavón river, in La Romana. This place is home to a Cultural Center, the National Archaeological Museum, and the so-called City of Artists. This place also has an Amphitheater with a long artistic history. You should know that The Chavón River, over which the city has a magnificent panoramic view, is well-known for being used for the recording of some films. You cannot speak of the Dominican Republic without mentioning its small islands and its beautiful beaches. That's why you can't miss Catalina Island or Ikiita Island, also belonging to La Romana. This island is uninhabited, but it’s possible to enjoy a beach escape for at least a few hours. The island integrates the trio of adjacent islands in the southeast of the country along with Saona and Catalinita. It has various natural beauties, such as a few paradisiacal beaches with white sands and crystal clear waters full of different species of birds and fish. It is one of the most popular destinations in the country. You cannot miss Cayo Levantado, in Samaná Bay, as this island has a beautiful hotel and several places that give the place more warmth. Its soft and whitish sands, in addition to its calm and crystalline waters, make it an unforgettable place to spend a dream vacation. Another beautiful beach area that you have to visit is the picturesque town of Bayahibe. This fishing village is an attraction in itself because it retains its Dominican flavor, especially for its restaurants, local bars, and craft stalls. In its streets, you can appreciate the fishermen selling the catch of the day, which can be a good opportunity to appreciate part of the Dominican culture. Although the capital of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo, there’s no city more popular than Punta Cana. Punta Cana is the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic and is recognized for its 32 km of clear water and amazing beaches. In this place, you can relax a weekend with delicious cocktails and refreshing waters, especially if you are heading to the Costa del Coco that forms with the Bavaro area. Nevertheless, you must explore the capital city, Santo Domingo, to meet other beauties of the Dominican Republic. Santo Domingo is one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean and it’s famous for its cobblestone walled historic center. Its colonial zone has buildings from the 16th century, including the cathedral that was the first to be built in the New World. If you explore the Plaza de España, you can enjoy a delicious coffee in any of the cozy local cafes, and then, you can visit the Alcázar de Colón palace. This palace was the home of Diego Colón, son of Christopher Columbus, and his wife María de Toledo, niece of King Fernando of Spain. Something you can also enjoy in the Dominican Republic is the culture and attractions of marine life. Such is the case of the National Aquarium, near the port terminal of Sans Souci, which has a long underwater tunnel that allows the observation of sharks, and an area to observe manatees. You can also explore the famous Ocean World to swim with dolphins and sharks characteristic of the region. If what you want is to please the palate with good food, then the Dominican Republic will not disappoint you. Whether in street food venues or restaurants close to hotels, Dominican food is recognized for its tropical delight and its spicy seasoning full of ingredients like bananas and beans. Among those dishes is the Mangú with egg, mashed bananas, and salami; the Dominican Sancocho made of meat and tubers; and Patacón, a meal based on fried flattened pieces of green plantain. You can also try some exotic cocktails or drinks like the famous Mamajuana, Cuba Libre, and Piña Colada. As you can see, there are many things you can do and enjoy in the Dominican Republic. But, none of this is possible if you don’t have all the necessary travel documents. That is why we recommend you first check on our website what requirements you may need to travel to this country. One of the most important requirements is the Health Declaration, as it has been useful in many situations, including pandemics.
