Israel ETA

Purpose: The Israel Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL) allows eligible visa-exempt travelers to enter Israel for tourism, business meetings, or short visits.

Processing time: The official government guidelines state that the ETA approval can take up to 72 hours. Most applicants receive it the same day.

Duration and extensions: The ETA is generally valid for multiple visits within 2 years. Each stay is typically limited to up to 90 days. Extensions are not possible for the ETA.

Entries: The ETA-IL allows multiple entries within the validity period.

Delivery format: This is a digital travel authorization electronically linked to your passport. You may be asked to present a confirmation upon arrival, so having a screenshot or printed version of the approval on hand is recommended.

Israel visa policy

Eligible visa-exempt nationals are required to have an approved Israel ETA (ETA-IL) before departure. Travelers from visa-required countries must apply for the appropriate visa through the online government portal or an Israeli embassy or consulate, prior to travel.

Entry to Israel is subject to immigration screening upon arrival. Travelers may be asked to provide proof of onward travel, accommodation details, and sufficient funds for the duration of their stay. Final entry approval is granted at the discretion of Israeli border authorities.

General Israel visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for the duration of stay
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation in Israel
  • Any additional supporting documents depending on nationality and purpose of travel

FAQs

The Israel ETA (ETA-IL) is a digital travel authorization required for eligible visa-exempt travelers. It is typically valid for multiple visits within its validity period, with each stay generally limited to up to 90 days.

The Israel eVisa is meant for travelers from visa-required countries.

With an approved ETA, travelers are generally permitted to stay for up to 90 days per visit. For eVisa holders, the permitted stay depends on the specific visa issued and nationality.

In general, the final length of stay is always determined by Israeli border authorities upon arrival.

No. Neither the ETA nor a standard visitor eVisa allows employment in Israel. If you intend to work, you must obtain an approved Work Visa before starting employment. Working without proper authorization can result in deportation or future travel restrictions.
The ETA cannot be extended beyond the permitted stay. For certain visitor visa categories, extensions may be requested through the Population and Immigration Authority before your current status expires. Approval is not guaranteed.
Overstaying your authorized stay can result in fines, removal from the country, and possible entry bans. Travelers must leave Israel before their permitted stay expires or apply for an extension in advance if eligible.
