iVisa.com Recommends

When you are thinking about what to visit in Mongolia, we give you the best travel recommendations. A popular destination for tourists is the Khovsgol region, mainly because of its lake and national park.

The lake is one of the main attractions of the place, because of the beautiful hidden peaks of the Sayan Mountains, considered the second largest body of water in the whole country, found inside the crystal blue waters.

From the Russian border, a strip of deep blue seeps up to the top of these mountains. You can see grassy banks rising and falling, dotted with pine trees blown by the strong local winds.

The waters of the lake are being protected by the local government because they are drinking water that needs no treatment, and because of the geological history of the site that dates back a whopping 2 million years.

Surrounding the lake is the Khovsgol National Park. This destination, considered a public art space, is somewhere between kitschy and terrifying, due to its exhibits of dead-eyed goats, murals, and ruined statues with mangled faces. One of the iconic attractions of the place is a Buddha statue, which was donated by South Koreans, and also a small amusement park for children and their families.
