Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mongolia on your bucket list? It should be! It might be not as popular as its neighboring countries (China and Russia), but Mongolia is still an incredible place to visit. It is one of the world’s least populated countries and it has one of the last surviving nomadic tribes. Traveling to this adventure destination means experiencing vast, isolated landscapes and learning about its famous nomadic culture.

What was once a Soviet nation for most of the 20th century, it is now an emerging country with a reliable economy based on agriculture, tourism, and mining. Thanks to this, part of the revenue is being given back into improving tourist facilities like the international airport near Ulaanbaatar. Plus, Mongolia is not too demanding when we talk about visas. Many nationalities don’t even require one! But that doesn’t mean that you can enter just with your passport.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Mongolian government launched the Mongolia Health Declaration a few months ago. With the Mongolia Health Declaration, you can enter the country easily. We say ‘easily’ because you can obtain this document through an online form, and not by going to the embassy or consulate. We encourage you to read this article to the end so that you can learn more about the Mongolia Health Declaration, and at the same time, you can also learn about Mongolian tourism.

Mongolian wilderness is something worth the visit. Many locals are aware of that, which is why once you ask them about it, they’ll start gushing about their vast countryside, the rugged mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and amazing wildlife. The wilderness is so impressive that you can easily experience a full day and see almost no signs of human habitation. Thanks to that, many locals from Ulaanbaatar often go to the camp. By the way, keep in mind that protected areas cover at least a fifth part of the country, and the government wants to increase that number even more!

This country has a nomadic culture like no other. One of the most-mentioned facts about this culture is its kind people. Many travelers note that Mongolians are arguably the friendliest people in the world. The land of Chinggis Khan is home to a culture of notorious hospitality, which welcomes respectful travelers from anywhere around the world. Therefore, don’t be surprised if locals are ready to help you, but remember to help them as well or give them gifts or supplies.

Nature might be a valuable thing in Mongolia, but keep in mind that it is changing quickly to a more developed country, especially with big cities like Ulaanbaatar (the capital city). In the big cities, you can enjoy modern buildings surrounded by greenish lands, and at the same time, some shopping centers to buy souvenirs

Aside from shopping centers and bazaars, Ulaanbaatar can offer you an exciting experience related to dinosaurs. The capital city has the amazing Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs, a place full of Dinosaur fossils and unique pieces. In this place, you can see dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes. It is not a surprise to find this museum here as many explorers have found fossilized bones and eggs from millions of years ago. The first person who discovered this interesting finding was the American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews, in the 1920s. Since then, Mongolia has made this place the center of unique fossils related to these creatures. The main piece is the UV-lit 4m-tall flesh-eating Tarbosaurus bataar, which is a cousin of the Tyrannosaurus rex.

If you’re a fan of vast landscapes, then you cannot miss the opportunity of going to the Gurvan Saikhan National Park. With its dunes, ice canyon, and beautiful mountain vistas, Gurvan Saikhan National Park is naturally one of Mongolia’s most popular national parks. Most tourists see only a part of it, sticking to the main sites. But with more time, you’re likely to drive to the remote western area, which is an eerie landscape lacking in life.

Mongolia has amazing places to go hiking, including the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. This place located northeast of Ulaanbaatar is famous for its striking alpine scenery. It is not only a great place for hiking, but also to try rock climbing. or swimming, at least if you’re brave enough to dive into icy-cold water.

One last place we want to recommend you visit in Mongolia is its Blue Pearl, better known as Khövsgöl Nuur. It is part of the popular Khövsgöl Nuur National Park, a major destination for both locals and tourists. Khövsgöl Nuur is a deep-turquoise lake that stretches 136km deep into the Siberian taiga. Aside from the lake, the forests and mountains that surround it have an incredible beauty that you surely won’t forget.

You’re just one click away from preparing your trip to Mongolia, but you might be wondering, what do I need to travel to this country? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back this time, we’re ready to help you with your travel documents!

We suggest checking the visa checker on our website to see if you’re eligible for the Mongolia Health Declaration first. For your convenience, this document is available for almost all nationalities, and it doesn’t require too much.

The Mongolia Health Declaration is obtainable through an online form (we have this online form on our website). But, aside from that, you’ll also need other travel requirements like your passport, an email address, a payment method to pay for the fees (debit/credit card or Paypal), and also a COVID-19 PCR test.

You might have to complete a 14-day quarantine upon arrival, but if you take a test within those days, and you get negative results, then you might end it up sooner.
