Egypt makes transit visa mandatory for Bangladeshi travelers

Bangladeshi citizens must now obtain a transit visa from the Egyptian Embassy in Dhaka before traveling through Egypt

Egypt has made transit visas mandatory for Bangladeshi citizens traveling through the country. The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Dhaka announced on social media on March 30, 2026, that the transit visa must be obtained in advance through the embassy prior to travel.

The embassy urged all travelers to secure the required visa ahead of time to avoid potential complications during their journey.

Requirements for the transit visa

Applicants must hold a valid passport and, where applicable, a valid visa or residence permit for their final destination. Egypt must be listed as a transit point in the traveler's itinerary.

Entry will be subject to standard Egyptian immigration checks, including verification that the individual is not listed under any entry restrictions.

The transit visa is valid for up to 72 hours after issuance and is intended for longer transit stays. Travelers are advised to contact the embassy's consular section for detailed procedures and further information.

Visa-on-arrival provisions remain

The embassy clarified that previous provisions allowing visa-on-arrival for travelers holding valid visas from selected countries will remain in effect. These provisions do not apply to short layovers.
